George Straughan was in the grocery and liquor business at 471 Geary St. in 1905. There were no other residents of this address. His manager at the business was Thomas Green, who lived at 473 Geary. He is not listed in 1892.
Adrienne, I was wondering if you also gave Holy Cross the name of Antonio's wife, as I suggested? If not, I think it would greatly narrow down your search in the future by giving another research name. Miriam __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi Adrianne, The Cemetary Department of the Archdiocese of San Francisco run all three of those cemetaries. If you give them a call at 1-650)756-2060,they shoulf be able to tell you if they have the information on the different cemetaries. If not, I'm sure they'll give you the phone numbers and addresses needed.Their address is P.O. Box 577, Colma,CA 94014 and in 1992 when I last corresponded with them, they had all 3 cemetaries on their letterhead. There are plenty of cemetaries in the Bay Area but all of the burials in San Francisco have been relocated to Colma as far as I know.If you look up on Google.com the words "San Francisco Genealogy", I think they may list other cemetaries. There are no other Catholic cemetaries in Colma.Mount Olivet is in San Rafael across the Bay from San Francisco and Menlo Park is in the South Bay - both pretty far away for someone who died in S.F. For Miriam, I got a very nice letter from Holy Cross Cemetery. There are 7 Antone Silvas. One of them might be, but not sure. I will check death record and obituary later. Do Catholic Cemeteries Archdiocese of San Francisco check on cemetries for Holy Cross Cemetery(Menlo Park), Mount Olivet Cemetery and Holy Cross Cemetery(Colma)only? Are there more cemeteries of SF beside than above? Thanks, Adrienne Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

You might want to read this article from Saturday's San Jose Mercury News, on the issue of privacy and the C.A.B.I. Allison -- You probably have the California birth and death index entries, but just in case you don't, here they are. I could not find Lois Marston (trying just Lois with mother, just dob, etc). She may still be living. Vitalsearch has scanned copies of the marriage records 1949-59 on their site (it's a pain to use with very annoying pop-up adds and you have to unload something to read the marriage records, but ..): http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/ California birth index: MARSTON LOIS L 1919 11 25 mother: HOSFOD FEMALE ALAMEDA BROWN LEONARD J 1918 09 08 mother: BILL MALE SAN FRANCISCO California death index: BROWN LEONARD JOHN 09/08/1918 BILL M CALIFORNIA SONOMA 12/21/1990 561-05-6687 72 yrs Allison wrote I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to look in the CAMI for 2 names: > > Lois Lorraine Marston b. 11/25/1919 Oakland CA > Lived in San Francisco from @1926-1941 then moved to Los Angeles area. > Mother's Maiden name- Hosford > Foster Mother's Maiden Name: Buck > > Leonard John Brown b. 1918 San Francisco > Died in Sonoma at 72 years > mother's Maiden Name: Bill
The CABI is still available on vitalsearch without charge, although you have to deal with those annoying pop-up adds, including, this morning, some that seemed to be for porno videos. For some reason, it requires an e-mail address to get to the CADI, but not the CABI. And sometimes it tells me I don't have the authority to access the second page of the info it pulls up on an inquiry, but it works next time I try. Anyway, it's at: http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/ Carol Nash

These are family members from a very disjointed branch of my maternal line. This line included frequent marriages and poor communication. Lois' sister married her last husband in 1971 at 62 years of age but hadn't seen or spoken to her sister in more than 30 years. As I said, I am more than willing to pay someone for their time or reciprocate with a lookup in my tri-state area of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. I've never been fortunate enough to visit California to do this look up myself. Ancestry.com does have the birth index. Problem is, they only have 1905-1910. That doesn't help much. We had access to 1905-1988 before on Rootsweb. Diane

I also check the San Francisco City Directories for 1875, 1876-77 and 1877-78, he was not listed nor was any one with that last name.
