That's possible but I know as far as marriages go, they allow you to look through reels of film but I think that's at another location.I'm sure, though, that they'll help you as much as they can.Maybe you could give them a call before planning your trip. --- ADRIENNE STEFANIK <HATTULA1902@msn.com> wrote: > Someone told me that I am not allowed to look up > death index through books by myself. > I am looking for 1905 to 1939. > Adrienne > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Miriam Ward > Sent: Saturday, January 05, 2002 1:40 AM > To: CASANFRA-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [CASANFRA] General > > Hi Adrienne, > That would be the Dept. of Public Health on 101 > Grove > St. and, yes, you could visit them. You might also > want > to check the Main Library for obituaries and/or > newspaper articles. > > Miriam > > --- ADRIENNE STEFANIK <HATTULA1902@msn.com> wrote: > > Hello. > > > > Am I allow to enter Vital Office of SF for look up > > death index? I live in Pennsylvania and have a question about California obituaries. Obituary searching is totally new to me, so how would I obtain obituaries for individuals that died in Orange/Los Angeles (1948 and 1976), Sonoma (1990) and Oakland/Alameda (1926)? The SF Public Library Library has a wonderful service that provides free obituary look-ups on request. (Their Web site, for those of you who may be unfamiliar: http://www.sfpl.org). Do any of you know if other libraries (Sonoma, Orange/LA, Oakland/Alameda) in California offer similar services? Also, are their obituary indexes online or CD ROMS available? Or do I need to physically visit local libraries to search newspaper/periodical indexes? Thank you! Allison Ector

Hi again, I was looking at this label again and it has been suggested that this Foundation is one of tea totelers (possibly). I noted on the label that under the words, "A Proud Supporter of the Pioneers Foundation" there is a large TRIANGLE on the label under the words. I vaguely remember the triangle being somehow affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous. This is about the only "clue" I have left. I am not about to call up my long lost cousin and ask (my cousin would be a 4th generation San Franciscan - a "Pioneer of San Francisco" if this info. helps at all?). Any other ideas on this mystery is greatly appreciated. I know you can't in Sacramento unless you are just looking for Sacramento records, and those are in a different location. Vital Statistics for the entire state can only be accessed via letter or fax to my knowledge. But if you are going for San Francisco deaths you can (I think) go to the County Court house. Anyone who knows set me straight. My heartfelt thanks to Sue O'Donnell for the tip on the online CA Death Index. Found a relative on it that I have been seeking for many years, and had only assumed she was in CA. She was not listed on the other index's, but this one carried her. Unfortunately, it turns out she died in 1998 at age 82, so I can't meet her. At least I now know she died in Lake Co., so I finally have a starting point. I will get a copy of her death certificate, and try to find an obituary. Anyone know any good obit links that would include Lake Co.? Pat Patrick Cummins Fairfax, VA Researching Cummins, Hamilton, Kraft, Smith, Lewallen, Stover
Hello again, I have had a great find (a living cousin in SF). Apparently my cousin is a member of "The Pioneers Foundation." I have looked for this and I cannot find it. Does anyone know of it or anything about it. I am just a tad bit curious after reading about all of these Irish societies and stuff for so long (yet to find a living relation in one of them in today's world is even more amazing to me!). Thanks for any help. Sue O'Donnell _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp.
