    3. The other day when I was at the Chapel of the Chimes, in Oakland, I picked up a flyer on some tours that they will be having on Sat. March, 2, 10-12pm. They say that space is limited for these docent-guided tours, that you should call (510) 654-0123. That is all I know, but some of you might be interested. I didn't get copies of the ships they arrived on and etc., figured I'd get back. Ya, sure. I have looked at the information about them on the Ellis Island site and they have my grandmother arriving in 1905 and what possible could be my grandfather 1909. Their surname name is very unusual and I have used variations as well and less than 10 individual's with that name have ever immigrated to the US. My aunt was never listed. Use Ellis Island data as a lead and get documentation.

    3. Hi again everyone, I was successful at reregistering into the site yesterday and have managed to get the record I was looking for (a *hit* I think). I have noticed (as others have that replied) that the site does look different. However, it is still accessible and it must have been down the other night when I was trying to get into it. Thanks again to this list for all your help. 3. Sue, I just went to the Ellis Island Site and had no trouble. I could pull up the original manifest and also a picture of the ship. I noticed that on the sign in page, there is a "having trouble signing in" link. I have e-mailed them once and had a prompt reply. Hope this helps. 2. To the Portuguese Hawaiian researchers... My website, www.islandroutes.com, has a new feature--a message board. The message board is available to all who are exploring their Portuguese Hawaiian ancestry. The board is a place to post family queries, genealogy questions, and conversations related to Portuguese Hawaiian genealogy and heritage. The board is still very new and is just waiting for participants! Everyone is encouraged to check it out--just click on Message Board on the main page of the website. You do need a user login to post to the board (see "New Users" from the Post a New Message Screen to register). Registration is free. Who knows? You might find a new cousin from the board! 3. Hey to the list, About a week ago I posted a census look up. Hopefully it made it to the list. Was wondering if anyone could look it up or tell me what other avenues I could use since ancestry.com still hasn't fixed the problem. I also do not live in California. Thanx again very much for all your help, Cindy Was wondering if someone could help me with a census look up. The one page I need to see, very possibly the one I have been looking for, is not working right for ancestry.com. Here's the specs: 1900 California San Francisco County Other Townships District 27 (San Francisco city, 29th assembly district, precinct 13. Bounded by Clara, Fourth, Perry, Fifth) Page 14 (pages 13 and 15, no problem) Can someone look this up for me on a different census report? I'm looking for the address 233 Perry Street and believe it is on this page. Hopefully the person living there is Crawford Graham. Thanx in advance for your help, Cindy

    1. Re: [CASANFRA] Weekly update pre-1905 project
    2. No, there is no viewing limitation. We are using Front Page to upload onto the website. Apparently, a few people are experiencing a delay between the time it says done and the time your computer sorts it out and puts it on your monitor. This seems to be most prominent with those that have Netscape as a browser. I had the same problem (I just switched to Internet Explorer). I have people with the same problem email me etc. and if they waited, it showed up. Some people just walked away from their computer (went to the bathroom or whatever) and when they came back, it was there. This is just a quirk with Netscape. 3. MeLani There might be church baptismal record, that are still around, but chances are that the only record, that you will find, is a notice in one of the local papers. 1. [CASANFRA] SPANGLER, EVEARTS, LINDBURGH, BOYD
    2. Hello -- I have just received an obituary for EDNA D. RAYMOND (nee DAIRY) who died 12 April 1943 in South San Francisco, San Mateo County, CA. It lists two daughters, MYRA SPANGLER of S.S.F. and ETHEL BOYD of Santa Monica and 3 grandchildren: RAYMOND L. SPANGLER of Redwood City, ARTHUR S. EVEARTS of San Bruno, and EDNA S. LINDBURGH of S.S.F. (Year 1943) I am interested in contacting descendants of this family to share their family history with them, as they connect with my husband's line all the way back to 1795 in western PA and VA. This research has been a challenge, as the deceased, EDNA D. RAYMOND (nee DAIRY) was orphaned at about age 4 and adopted by another family (DICKENSON) in Oregon. I would love to be able share my findings with any interested family members. I've had no luck in checking white pages and e-mail addresses. Thank you, Joan Brown Derry MDMama2841@aol.com

    1. [CASANFRA] Weekly update pre-1905 project
    2. >Hi all; >Weekly update time for the pre-1905 project. For those that are not aware of the project, we are entering the vital statistic information for the period of statehood (1850) to 1905 (time of CADI and CABI). > >First of all, I would like to thank those that have sponsored counties by donating sufficient funds to acquire the copies of the death records for a given county. This is greatly appreciate by not only those of us working on the project, but soon will be appreciated by all those who will have the records online. Thank you ever so much for your help. > >Secondly, I would like to thank all those that are volunteering on this project. We now have close to 100 persons volunteering in areas of acquiring records, transcribing records, working with county recorders, etc; then there is my #2s, Steve and Laura who have been indispensible in their undying work on the project, website and all the technical support they have given. This project would not be as far along as it is if it weren't for the two of them. We all owe them alot. > >Now, for what is happening on the project: > >We have acquired some of the records for San Francisco County. I have to admit that I was totally dumbfounded when I realized the number of records that are available for pre-1906 earthquake because I was under the impression that alot of the records were gone and there was very little available. This may be partially true in that alot of the records burned, but the records that I have just gotten access to have changed my mind on what is available. Let me explain. There are 6 microfilms of just death records that I have acquired. In those films are records of over 200,000 deaths in San Francisco County for the period of 1863-1903. That is more than in any other county in the state, and may be equivalent to all other counties combined. This is alot and will take some time and lots of donations to make all the copies. At 40 entries per page, that is over 5000 copies to be made at .35-.50 per page. That means the cost factor for San Francisco county alone will be in excess of $2000.00 and that is before postage costs to get these records to the transcribers. This means we will need lots of donations. This is where we scream HELP, HELP, HELP. We need your help on this. Donations are desperately needed. They can be sent to me at the address below. > >As far as the other counties are concerned, we will be doing them simultaneously to the time we are working on San Francisco. Although about 75% of our transcribers will be working San Francisco, the other 25% will be working on the other counties. We have had some people sponsor some counties and those copies will be made and transcribed. We have the Genealogical Society that will be working on Santa Barbara County. We have our precious Janie and Elaine who will be working Shasta County (in addition to others if needed). We have a husband-wife team doing Butte County, Beverly Stone working El Dorado County, Sharon Dulcich photoing and transcribing Kern County, although she will be getting some additional help in the transcription portion of this. Betty Vickroy has just finished Marin County and book two will be online, probably this week. Modoc County has been funded and will be in the transcription phase as soon as the records come in (they have been ordered). Jacqui Marcela is transcribing Placer County. Beverly Stone is working on accessing the Sacramento County Records; Dee Sardoch is currently transcribing San Benito County; Barbara Erden is transcribing San Luis Obispo; Laura Melton is transcribing Siskiyou County; Elvina Fernandez is working on acquiring the ordered Tulare County records which will be transcribed by her and the Sequoia Genealogical Society; Steven Miller is transcribing Mariposa County and on and on and on. 1. [CASANFRA] John HENRY
    2. Amanda
    3. Hi All, I'm new to the list and would like to post my interest. I am trying to find any information about John HENRY born about 1857 in San Francisco, and died 1897 in Melbourne, Australia. I am still trying to find his marriage as well - his son's birth certificate states his father's birth was in San Francisco and his marriage to Ellen MULLINS was in Launceston, Tasmania but I can't find it at all. Some of his children's births were registered as HEYWOOD's and not HENRY's for whatever reason, I still do not know. Any help, greatly appreciated and in return, if I can do any lookups for Victoria, Australia (1836-1913) please contact me directly. Thanks, Amanda Email: greenthumbs@bigpond.com Family tree website at: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=greenthumbs
