    3. For all of the newcomers to this site who aren't aware of the old Playland at the Beach in San Francisco, this website will tell you just about everything you might want to know: http://www.sonic.net/~playland/playland.html Believe it or not, the last time I saw Laughing Sal was backstage at a Rolling Stones' concert at the Oakland Coliseum. Concert promoter Bill Graham was still alive and had the entire outdoor backstage set up like a carnival setting. It was quite an amazing site to see her up close! Linda

    1. [CASANFRA] The Wards in San Francisco in 1870...
    2. Edward A. Black, Sr.
    3. I have been trying to identify the location of the 12 wards in San Francisco (in 1870). This is in part because I am currently transcribing the 1870 Census for San Francisco (currently have 62 pages complete in Ward 1), but I have no idea what the boundries of each ward are. Does anyone have any idea what parts of San Francisco were in each ward?. Sincerely, Edward, Sr.

    3. Not only was Laughing Sal at Playland-at-the-Beach but she greeted everyone approaching the Funhouse behind glass at the building's corner. Her voice was amplified to the outside. The Funhouse was a fabulous place. As a kid I could stay there for hours. It featured a rotating barrel (the trick in standing was to run at an angle against the rotation), a spinning platter (squirm yourself to the center, pry everyone's else's hands off the surface and generally push them to the outside), jackknifing and shaking ramps at the entrance (where an attendant would blow air under girl's skirts ala Maryln Monroe), the polished wooden slide with a potato sack as your flying carpet, distorting mirrors. What am I missing!

    2. HAMID,LINDA (HP-Roseville,ex1)
    3. An interesting item on the Coroner's report for the 1925 death of my 8 year old uncle was that the truck driver was Carl Kamp, a 16 year old boy with "2 years experience as a driver". Was there a minimum driving age in SF in 1925? Did people have to pass a driver's test and get a license back then? Carl's dad owned the truck, my uncle said it was a coal or ice company, I forget which. Linda Hamid
