    3. I live in California and would be willing to request a few obits for people from out of state as long as the requests don't get overwhelming, or unless someone on the list feels that this is objectionable. 1. RE: [CASANFRA] San Francisco Look Ups please - MAC CARTHY/MCCARTHY
    2. Ruth Skewis
    3. Hi Marge, I had s little luck searching the CADI for your folks - I selected "soundex" rather than "exact" for the spelling of MacCarthy - I also entered the surname in one word all in caps (MACCARTHY) and this came up: MCCARTHY ROBERT E Born - 07/14/1887 in Rest(Other) Mother - MCCARTHY Father - MCCARTHY Sex - M Died - 11/11/1949 in San Francisco (38) SS# 545-05-4793 Age - 62 yrs This SS# for Robert is not listed in the SSDI for Robert and I could not find him in the SSDI searching on just his name (with and without any of the dates shown on the CADI). Not a problem, lots of folks are not included in the SSDI for one reason or the other.... I was unable to find Robert Sarsfield MacCarthy/McCarthy in the CADI or in the SSDI - I searched with and without dates - using initials rather than first and middle names - I also used the "soundex" rather than "exact".... But no luck... So....... only a 50% success rate - but at leas that much... Hope this helps, RUTH _________________________________ Ruth(Grady)Skewis-Sacramento, CA ruth4527@mindspring.com > -----Original Message----- > From: rebel14@iinet.net.au [mailto:rebel14@iinet.net.au] > Sent: Sunday, March 31, 2002 11:03 PM > To: CASANFRA-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [CASANFRA] San Francisco Look Ups please > > > Can someone help with details on these two gentlemen as I have just found > them in paperwork I was sent from another relative. 'Fraid not Kathy, 1920 census can be searched at your local FHC and at some libraries Check out these URLs http://www.rootsweb.com/~census/inv/ca.htm http://www.sfo.com/~timandpamwolf/sfranlib.htm Here's the scoop on the 1930 census Have fun! Ruth _________________________________ Ruth(Grady)Skewis-Sacramento, CA ruth4527@mindspring.com Release of the 1930 U.S. Census The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration will release the 1930 Federal population census for the first time on April 1, 2002. At that time, the microfilmed copies will be available for research at the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, at 13 of the National Archives regional facilities across the nation, and through the National Archives rental program. The 1930 census is the 15th Federal census mandated by the U.S. Constitution, which states, "The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct...". The 1930 census consists of 2,667 rolls of population schedules and 1,587 rolls of Soundex indexes for 12 southern states, totaling 4,254 rolls. Even though the statistical summaries collected by enumerators are made public shortly after the census is taken, information on individuals and families is restricted by law for privacy reasons for 72 years. 1. [CASANFRA] Pre-1905 Weekly update
    2. Hi all; This has been a hectic week. As many of you have noticed, there is a note on the website regarding some problems we were having with our tables. We have found a solution and Aaron, Steve and Laura are working on it as fast as they can, but these files are large and all have to be reformated and then uploaded again to the site. This is taking a little bit of time. Please be patient and it will be worth it. The new updated information will be not only Internet Explorer friendly, but Netscape friendly as well. I don't know about the WebTV situation yet. We will have to wait and see. In the meantime, the transcriptionists are working like little beavers on the continuation of the batches. Based on the information that I have, when the site is back to full capacity again the following will be added to the site as completed: Kern County San Bernardino County Book Two Humboldt County Book Two San Luis Obispo County A-N Possibly Santa Barbara County Modoc County Placer County And about 30 batches of San Francisco County There could even be more by then as well. As you can tell, we are progressing, even though the website is being revamped for past problems. We have also distributed the following counties for work to begin on Transcription: Part of Fresno County Shasta County Del Norte County Lake County Part of Sierra County Part of Mono County Part of Santa Cruz County And lots more of San Francisco County ALSO, although it will be awhile before we get to them, we are in the process of starting to collect marriage and birth records for some of the counties so that we will have them when the deaths are completed. PLEASE, do not ask for lookups. We are going as fast as we can to get these online and cannot do lookups and maintain our current speed of work. We will NOT do lookups regardless of your reasoning. Please be patient. We are working as fast as our fingers will go. Some BAD NEWS.... It appears as if there are no records available for El Dorado County. Rumor has it that one of the employees ran off with the records and sold them, but we have no access to them. Also, these records were NOT filmed by the LDS church either so getting that won't work either. We had heard they were at the Huntington Library, but have learned that is not the case either. We may be able to get some records, but they will be minimal at this point in time. Some GOOD NEWS.... We have somebody checking into the availability of the Ventura County records and should know in the not too distant future what is going on here and if we can get access. Say lotsa prayers and keep your fingers crossed. These records are also NOT filmed by the LDS church either. Sooooo, as you can tell, with all these changes going on, life has definitely been hectic on the pre-1905 project. Keep an eye on the site to see the changes come about. When all is said and done with the upgrades, we will also have sources listed on the site for your reference. Just be patient. We are listening to you all and your comments...the fix-its just don't happen overnight. Donations to the project are still needed and can be sent to me at the address below. Volunteers to transcribe are also appreciated. Just contact me. Thank you all for your support on this project. It definitely has been there for us and I hope we can continue to comply with your needs by getting these records to you as fast as possible. Donna Bradley Pre-1905 Project Coordinator P. O. 3. I realize that this is off-topic but I want to alert list members using Yahoo! accounts that the company has instituted a new policy that may end up putting more spam in your mailbox unless you indicate otherwise. Please read the following, if this applies to you: *** Yahoo! has changed their privacy policy and marketing rules. You may want to re-set your marketing preferences ASAP. Yahoo! changed their policy and signed everyone up for ALL of their email lists by default. There are over a dozen lists, as well as selections for PHONE and snail mail contact. You can change these here: http://edit.my.yahoo.com/config/eval_profile Click on this link and log in. Look in the middle of the page in the email address section. There is a link called "Edit your Marketing Preferences." Click on this. You will see about a dozen Yahoo! mailing lists, as well as selections for outside mailing lists, phone, and snail mail. By default, these are all set to YES. They are supposedly sending out messages to everyone, but are saying it may take several weeks. In the mean while, they can happily release your contact information to others in accordance with their changed policy. Linda
