Molly/Mollie is a pet form of Mary as well as name in its own right.
To all who responded so quickly...you all had the same answer...Mollie=Mary....I appreciate your time and effort. And here is a site sent to me which I find to be particularly interesting.... http://www.geocities.com/edgarbook/names/other/nicknames.html Try it, you'll like it!!! :) Thanks again.... Judie

There are already some great postings here. Bill - I remember that smell on the old Embarcadero; the bay, the creosote impregnated piers, a hint of diesel and of course, all types of seafood and spices from the food shacks. Lotsa great memories and that's what it's all about. Each one triggers a memory that someone else had. Thanks so much, George! The dates fit very well - Richard and Alice STEWARD were married in 1871, their daughter born in 1872, and they stayed in San Francisco until 1875 when they returned to Honolulu. A relative believes that she has a picture of their daughter as a toddler taken by the same photographer, so this would match up too. I live in S W France not that far from Pau. Terremere means "Motherland" I wonder if they chose this name when emigrating. It is not a name I have come across...... However the nearest translation of Bonemazou is "good heating oil" so all that may be worthless :-) the term Catherine Loustaunau dit Lahorgue is interesting because that would mean that she was C Loustaunau but CALLED Lahorgue Forgive me if you are Francophone and knew all this already Iris Iris http://bristolsomerset.1500mb.com/
Hi Shelley, It appears that Bernard's name is Terremere, rather than Ferremere, as the data below shows? The families of Catherine Loustaunau dit Lahorgue and Bernard Terremere were part of the French Colony of San Francisco. Both came from the Bearnaise region of Southwest France, near Pau, and are intermarried with our Lounibos/Lassalle families. Although the connection is distant and mostly previous to their immigrations, I would be most grateful to see a copy of the photo you hold, if possible? If not, possibly this data may draw a closer relation forward? Hi everyone, Does anyone know anything about early photography business " "D.S. HANWAY's Photograph Car"? - was this business located in San Francisco? during the early 1870's? Was a 'photograph car' some sort of portable studio that went from place to place taking photos? or a street photography business? or? I have copies of very similar individual portraits (b/w with portions hand-colored) of my gr-grandparents - Richard Cullen Steward and Alice M (Mary?) TREAHY or TRAHEY which are labelled as taken by 'D.S. HANWAY's Photograph Car' - but no date. Would love to be able to determine date and location for these photos. This couple were married March 26, 1871 in San Francisco and returned to the Steward's home in Honolulu - so I'm wondering if that photography business was in SF during that period? Note - I have checked the 1864 and 1890 San Francisco Business Directory online at http://www.sfgenealogy.com without success - but maybe I'm missing something here.. Thanks in advance for any info available, K. Steward

The California Death Index contains the following: Wright, Joseph W. DOB 1 Jan. 1880 DOD 5 July 1950 Place of Death: San Mateo County (next door to San Francisco) Birthplace: Somewhere other than the U.S. You can order the death certificate from California Dept. of Health Services; here is the web site: http://www.dhs.ca.gov/chs/ovr/ordercert.htm Or you can get it faster from Vitalchek, but it will cost more: http://www.vitalchek.com Regardless of where you order the death certificate from, you will want to order an "informational copy," which contains the same information as the regular certified copy, but the application requirements are less stringent.
