Hello, Jim Smith is at it again! :-) We are having another San Francisco Memories Contest! The contest rules are posted here: http://www.sfgenealogy.com/boards/sfmemory/messages/211.html Please remember to post your entry AND email me a copy. Thanks. Jim's question is: >>> In two major periods of her history, San Francisco was the music capital of the west. In the in-between times, she still hosted some of the best musical venues on the coast. Tell about the your favorite San Francisco musical experience, music related story or historical music-related character. <<< The prizes are: a signed copy of his book and one free Researchity order. Good luck! Ron
Sorry Dr. Lucius William should be Dr. Lucius William Newell. <<George Would you please check the Columbarium records for my great grandfather. I think he may have been in the Cemetery rather than the mausoleum. His name is Dr. William Andrew Newell DOD 27 MAY 1897. Also my Great Great Uncle (Dr. Lucius William(DOD 15 NOV 1896) is in the Mausoleum in a section with Benner Family. Could you tell me the names of the Benner's there. Thank you for any assistance. Hello, I would like to know if it's possible to locate my great great-uncle's grave (maybe an individual marker or records kept by the cemetery). He died in 1893 and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. My ancestor Charles SAUTER, born in Switzerland on 16 January 1849 died in San Francisco on 20 March 1893. His obituary published in the "San Francisco Call" said: **[In this city, March 20, Charles Sauter, beloved brother of Joseph Sauter, a native of Switzerland, aged 35 years. -- Friends and acquaintance are respectfully invited to attend the funeral to-morrow (Friday) at 2 o'clock p.m. from the undertaking parlors of Charles J. B. Metzler, 636 Washington street. Interment, Odd Fellows' Cemetery]** Thank you for any help. The CGS has provided me with his entry in the IOOF's cremation register. What I am curious about is what happened to his ashes. Are they in the columbarium or were did they have an alternative disposition? Mike in WA > The California Genealogical Society, in their library has the records for > the Odd Fellows Columbarium. Cathie I checked the EX, he is not listed checked to June 30. But in the San Francisco Call, found him but all has name, date and place of death, age, and that he was a native of San Francisco. The Relief Home, was run by the Dept of Public Health, but not sure what records they would have now. Plus I would bet that if you asked them where he is buried, they would tell you to buy a D.C. ;-) George The Schafers <[email protected]> wrote: Hello, First I was hoping someone could give me some insight on the "Relief Home for the Aged and Infirm" in SF. I have a ggg uncle who was only 57 but he was listed as a inmate, wow 57 seems a bit young!? Do you know if you can get records or anything from this place? The other thing is I was hoping I could get a Obit from the SF Examier. on him. Charles G. Johnson d. June 23, 1921 ( I have a VERY brief obit from the SF Chronicle 6/24/1921). I am hoping one from another paper may give me a clue were he was buried or some other clue other than just a date of death. Thanks so much! Cathie There were two papers in San Francisco, at the time. One the San Francisco, had just started on Dec 8, 1863, but on the roll of film they have Dec 13 and then the next is Dec 17 and then Dec 24. The California Alta film has all the dates, guessing that you are looking for a Johnson,;-) none listed for the days I checked. I've just been sent this site - thought you might be able to find your immigrants... maybe... _http://www.frenchlines.com/passager_index_fr.php_ It is in French, but I've just recently found that I can translate from any language into English by clicking on my right mouse button - at the bottom of the menu that comes up... click on "Translate" - and it does..!! - translates the entire page/site into English..!! Also under Tools you can select "Research" and then you have a different way to translate a foreign language. Pretty neat FOR WINDOWS USERS - don't know how MAC's do it - but I'm sure they can... cause the MAC ads tell they can do anything we PC users can do...:) Good luck...
