    3. If they are using the Family Tree Maker Marriage CD then the California data will be sparse indeed. They only had one county (as I remember from years ago, and I may be in error about this) and it was Santa Clara. My in-laws married in Santa Clara, within the time frame they had, and they were not listed. So I would not assume data would be available for the whole state, but one can always hope it has been augmented. 3. mary...I just clicked on the abish.byui site...and, for the fun of it, entered my father's name...and selected Idaho (I have never been able to track down his first marriage...but his great aunt told me she thought maybe he'd married an "injun girl" from out west!!! So, I selected Idaho....and up it came!!!! I almost fell out of my chair!! Then I tried all the other states, including California where I KNOW he was married at least once...he married my mother in SF in 1937....but zero!!! Question: On the one I did retrieve...is there a way to get a copy of the marriage cert, and if so, what's the process, if you know. Gadzoooooks....I am really floored! Supposedly, he is buried in Southern California, but I haven't had any luck finding him. Or his military records relating to the accident. After all of these years his daughters would like some information. Thank you, Julie Collins

    3. Hi, Julie. If the data at the bottom of this email is for your father, he enlisted in the city of Los Angeles. It's possible that his burial place was indicated in his obituary, which may have appeared printed in the LA Times (or in the paper of a smaller community within greater Los Angeles). You can request an obituary lookup request at the ancestry/rootsweb or genforum message boards for Los Angeles county: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.california.counties.losangeles http://genforum.com/ca/losangeles/ Or request an obituary lookup by a volunteer through the OBIT-L list. First read the instructions at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~obitl/ then click on "List of Volunteers," select California from the resulting page, and scroll down until you find the appropriate volunteer for Los Angeles county. Another strategy is to get obits for your paternal grandparents; your father may be buried in the same cemetery with them. ========================================= U.S. World War II Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946 about Benton E Miller Name: Benton E Miller Birth Year: 1921 Race: White, citizen Nativity State or Country: California State: California County or City: Los Angeles Enlistment Date: 4 Feb 1942 Enlistment State: California Enlistment City: Los Angeles Branch: Air Corps Branch Code: Air Corps Grade: Private Grade Code: Private Term of Enlistment: Enlistment for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law Component: Army of the United States - includes the following: Voluntary enlistments effective December 8, 1941 and thereafter; One year enlistments of National Guardsman whose State enlistment expires while in the Federal Service; Officers appointed in the Army of Source: Civil Life Education: 2 years of college Civil Occupation: Draftsman, Electrical Marital Status: Single, without dependents Height: 69 Weight: 138 [email protected] wrote: I need help locating the burial place for Benton Ellis MILLER. 3. to Cathy in Powell OH (unfortunately, this requester did not volunteer their email address) I have copied the material requested and will be mailing it to you shortly. Meanwhile, here are some highlights .... Your note asked for infomation as if there were children possibly from the marriage of William Le Grand Dickenson/Dickinson and Luella Johnson. I tried to find that out for you but didn't have much success. Read below. There are a considerable amount of citations for this family and I tried to copy what might be of interest to you. >From SF Examiner Dec 25, 1891 article which also has a sketch of the Doctor. Dr. W. L. Dickinson native of TN, came with his father's family to CA in 1846 as a small boy. His father was G. D. Dickinson who at one time occupied the position of Prefect under the Territorial Government of this State (CA). This is just a short excerpt. I don't know if you want the rest, since it doesn't give more details regarding his family. But if you do, let me know. >From the SF Call Jan 3 1892 Dr. W. L. Dickinson A Mexican War Hero of Distinction In 1849 he settled in Stockton, then called Weberville. This article I also did not copy because it gave no further details about his family. >From SF Chronicle Dec 1 1904 Review of book by Luella J. Dickinson - There is a copy of the book (117 pages) in the CA Room. I copied the picture of G. D. Dickinson and the front page for you. This mentions her husband was G. D. Dickinson, who was a 15 year old boy when he crossed the plains in a party that traveled just before that of the ill-fated Donner Party. In CA, Judge Dickinson built the first hotel in Stockton and his two sons prospered. I believe that husband's name should have been Wm. Legrand, not G. D. Luella J. Dickenson died age 66 Alameda County on Aug 30 1912 - unable to locate obituary in Oakland Tribune. >From Pioneer cards G. W. Dickenson, son of Gallant was born in MO settled in Merced in 1858. In 1881 had a farm. Marrid Mary Ann Brooks and they had 5 children. W. L. Dickenson, brother of G. W. was a native of TN. >From San Joaquin Valley Argus June 11 1870 the late G. D. Dickinson had a service in Hopetown, Merced County, CA Isabella Dickinson, wife of G. D., has a mention in the San Jose Pioneer March 17 1877 and it says she died March 14 1877 at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. A. G. Lawrey. Mrs. A. G. Lawrey is profiled in the Apr 13 1912 issue of the Pacific Grove Daily Review. She was 14 years old when she came to CA with her family. I have also copied the census records for your W. L. Dickinson from 1870, 1880 and 1900, but I believe the couple had one child but it didn't survive. The 1900 census has 1 childen listed as being born, but it looks like the next number (living) is a 0. >From History of San Joaquin County G. D.
