I agree with you that Henry STEINMEYER married only once, to Annie SCHMIDT. It was Henry's step-mother, Anna C. ECKMANN/ECKMAN, who married twice, first to Frederick William STEINMEYER, second to William KLAESER. It's not unusual for there to be discrepancies between birth dates in the censuses and on tombstones (or death certificates). The person ordering the tombstone is obviously not the deceased, just as the informant on a death certificate is obviously not the deceased, so both tombstones and death certificates, while usually very accurate as to the death date, are notoriously inaccurate with regard to the birth date. As Henry does appear to be adopted, he may, himself, have been uncertain as to his birthdate. In cases where people don't know their birth date or place, they are usually embarassed to admit it, so when asked, they will give a fictional date, which can lead to inconsistencies in their records through the years.
