Hello Lists, It has been a long time since I have posted my DUNN/McKinnon/Kinnan brick wall. My great grandfather, William Edward DUNN was born in Lancaster, (Erie County ??)New York 6 Feb 1863. Since his parents both were born in Ireland and he here I must assume that they came to the U.S. sometime before February of 1863. Here is where the family story comes in....When William was about 3 or 4 (about 1866/1867) both his mother Susie McKINNON (several spellings) and his sister (although I have a picture of her I don't know her name) died of small pox. Was there an epidemic of small pox back in that time that might pinpoint the death year closer than what I have? When William was about 8 (about 1871) his father Martin DUNN was run over by a train. I can only imagine what this child must have been going through. The story goes that after William became an orphan he goes to PA to live with his grandparents ; William and Moriah KINEN/KINNAN/KINNON/McKINNON and stays with them until their death (I don't know when that was). He later becomes a chef in Buffalo, New York I am told. William meets Alice May TOMPKINS (born 9 Jan 1869 in Northern Michigan and died 24 Aug 1936 in Sutter Hospital, Sacramento, CA. I have obits. Daughter of Richard Edward TOMPKINS and Mary Evelyn PEETS) marries and has my grandmother (an only child) Doris Lillian DUNN. Although Doris is born in Colden, Erie, NY 6 Jan 1906 the family ends up in Galt, CA running a dairy farm and a home delivery route. William and Alice divorce, I don't know when and he goes to the Ozarks. My aunt claims that he died 13 Mar 1934 in Dolph, Izard, Arkansas but I have yet to find any proof of that. Is there anyone out there who can fill in any of the blanks or point me in the right direction? Thank you, Eileen Gillette Hawthorne, Mineral, Nevada
