James Madison Walden came to CA in 1859. He was born in Macon GA Nov 3 1842, the son of James Walden and Matilda Tuchri, a native of GA. Matilda died when James M. was but 3 years old. The father died at age 52 in Alabama. At seventeen, James Madison Walden came to CA by steamer from New Orleans landing at San Francisco. He made his way to Sacramento and in 1860 came to a farm within three miles of Rocklin. He was married on Feb 15 1870 to Miss Hannah Ryon of Auburn and conducted a hotel in Rocklin for a short time. James and Hannah were married six years when the wife died leaving him with five children. Herbert James, Albert Madison, Lester, Violet, Joseph and Melvin John. James remarried Mrs. Carrie Gillis, a widow who had one child, Earnest, by her former marriage. Albert Madison Walden was born 11/06/1876 and died in Sacramento 7/21/1942 Melvin James Walden was born 3/15/1887 and died in Sacramento 09/02/1941 From 1870 census, Hannah, age 21, shows as having been born in New York. from CADI pre1940 J. M.Walden died age 72 in Sacramento 2/13/1915 He is mentioned in the obituary of his daughter, Mrs. Benjamin H.
