This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Parker, Pallan, Cody Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JW.2ADI/2213 Message Board Post: I need help to find a volunteer researcher who can possibly find some students records for a Wilma Pallan who attended the former Sherman Indian boarding school or institute in Riverside, Calif. during the late 1930s and prior to 1942 . I have found out that student records are now located at: Sherman Indian Museum 9010 Magnolia Avenue Riverside, CA 92503 (951) 276-6719 office I have contacted the museum, but they do not have any staff or volunteers who can do research, but they will allow someone to come in and look for records. They need volunteers !! the museum houses the original records and copies on microfilm. There are copies of museum archives on microfilm at the State Library in Sacramento and the Public Library in Fresno. Wilma Pallan’s grandmother, Beulah Filson or Filsen from Oroville, was previously married to Arthur C. Parker who was a NA archeologist from NY of some fame and he was a descendant of the famous Ely S. Parker, Seneca. Wilma’s mother was Bertha or “Birdie” Parker who was also a archeologist and or anthropologist and who wrote many scientific articles. Wilma’s father is uncertain. Bertha or Birdie may have been married to Pallan and also possibly to Thomas, so Wilma’s registered student name at the school is uncertain. Wilma’s step father was Iron Eyes Cody who was a NA actor who was in more than 100 movies prior to WW II and on his own TV shows later. His name is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Palm Springs Walk of Fame and he has written books about Indian sign language and his Hollywood career. Wilma Pallan or Parker or Thomas or Cody was raised in LA or Hollywood before becoming a “wild child” and being sent to the Sherman Institute. Wilma was at her grandmothers for summer vacation when she died of an accidental gun shot wound 18 Jul 1942 at age 17 in Thermalito, Butte Co, CA.. I am hoping that someone can go to the state library in Sacramento or to the museum in Riverside and maybe locate Wilma’s student records and Sherman (HS) yearbooks that may contain a picture of Wilma. Any additional info about Wilma or her parents and their career is greatly appreciated Contact:: Dan <dadbrown_99@yahoo.com>
