Byrne in Truckee Byrne, son born 13 Dec 1880, 13 Dec 1880 edition was born to P. A. Byrne in Sacramento (but I didn't find that birth certificate record) Byrne, C. F. son born 6, Oct. 1875, 8 Oct. 1875 edition was born to the wife of C. F. Bryne, at Schaffer's Mill, nr Truckee. I copied the page of the Sacto Bee for Jeannette Strain's marriage to Charles Byrne. They were married by Thomas George, Justice of the Peace. That was also on the marriage certificate. The marriage certificate indicated her father, J. E. Strain (James?), allowed the marriage to occur. Witnesses were Eli Mayo and R....? I could not read the second name, but both witnesses were from Sacramento City and looking at the census for that time I did find an Eli Mayo age 58 in the 1880 census with a wife, Margaret. Eli was born in England and was a carpenter. I thought maybe the second witness was his wife but since the name doesn't start with R I don't know what it could have been. Eli is living by the Ruggles family in 1880. He has several children, but I couldn't seem to eke out any R first names from that set of kids. I am just assuming that the second name would have been a relation of Eli, why else was there only one name? But that may be a wrong assumption. Just seemed strange. I don't know, perhaps it wasn't a second witness, but the line was followed by place of residence as if it indicated the normal residence of the person. I must apologize, I didn't notice your request for the death certificate for the mother, Catherine Strain who died Jan 29 1875. I will have to check in two weeks on that. Please give me an address so I can mail what I have copied and transcribed to you.
