    1. obits/funeral notices
    2. We often forget that obits and funeral notices are 2 different items. Often we cannot find an obit, but almost everyone has a funeral notice. My experience with the Sac Bee obit index is that it only lists obits, not funeral notices. And I believe that it stops at 2000? Also, remember that the Sac Bee has funeral notices on line - free for 365 days, then $2.95. It has fully searchable index. http://www.legacy.com/SacBee/DeathNotices.asp good luck in your search Betty

    1. William Edward DUNN NY, PA, CA, AR 1863 - 1934 also Kinnan and McKinnon, and Tompkins
    2. Eileen Gillette
    3. Hello Lists, It has been a long time since I have posted my DUNN/McKinnon/Kinnan brick wall. My great grandfather, William Edward DUNN was born in Lancaster, (Erie County ??)New York 6 Feb 1863. Since his parents both were born in Ireland and he here I must assume that they came to the U.S. sometime before February of 1863. Here is where the family story comes in....When William was about 3 or 4 (about 1866/1867) both his mother Susie McKINNON (several spellings) and his sister (although I have a picture of her I don't know her name) died of small pox. Was there an epidemic of small pox back in that time that might pinpoint the death year closer than what I have? When William was about 8 (about 1871) his father Martin DUNN was run over by a train. I can only imagine what this child must have been going through. The story goes that after William became an orphan he goes to PA to live with his grandparents ; William and Moriah KINEN/KINNAN/KINNON/McKINNON and stays with them until their death (I don't know when that was). He later becomes a chef in Buffalo, New York I am told. William meets Alice May TOMPKINS (born 9 Jan 1869 in Northern Michigan and died 24 Aug 1936 in Sutter Hospital, Sacramento, CA. I have obits. Daughter of Richard Edward TOMPKINS and Mary Evelyn PEETS) marries and has my grandmother (an only child) Doris Lillian DUNN. Although Doris is born in Colden, Erie, NY 6 Jan 1906 the family ends up in Galt, CA running a dairy farm and a home delivery route. William and Alice divorce, I don't know when and he goes to the Ozarks. My aunt claims that he died 13 Mar 1934 in Dolph, Izard, Arkansas but I have yet to find any proof of that. Is there anyone out there who can fill in any of the blanks or point me in the right direction? Thank you, Eileen Gillette Hawthorne, Mineral, Nevada

    1. LINVILLE Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph which is identified as the sister of Earl LINVILLE. The photograph was taken at a studio in Salem, Oregon, likely sometime in the early 1900's with the woman in the photograph probably in her 20's at the time. In addition notations on the back of the photograph also state that Earl LINVILLE is "Freda's Dad". The photograph also appears to have been a gift "from Pansy to Delus" which causes me to wonder if this is a photograph of Pansy LINVILLE? Based on limited research and thanks to the assistance of a LINVILLE Family Researcher I was able to find the following information regarding this LINVILLE Family: Earl Isaac LINVILLE was the son of James & Fannie LINVILLE. James Thomas LINVILLE was b. July 1850 in KY and his wife Fannie LINVILLE (maiden name unknown) was born Sept 1852 in MO. The couple had a total of 5 children with three still living in 1900, those three were: Earl Isaac LINVILLE, b. June 1882/83 in OR, died 7 May 1952 in Contra Costa Co. CA Ethel E. LINVILLE, b. Mar 1884 in OR (married but had no children) Pansy V. LINVILLE, b. Mar 1886 in OR (believed to be the woman in the photograph) Earl Isaac LINVILLE married Orla COX and together they had the following children: Elden Lionel LINVILLE, b. 13 Jan 1916 in OR, died 5 Jul 1992 in Mendocino Co. CA Orvan Earl LINVILLE, b. 12 Jun 1917 in OR, died 22 Mar 1991 in Sacramento Co. CA Delman Leverne LINVILLE, b. 3 Apr 1920 in OR, died 15 Aug 1990 in Sacramento Co. CA Myrle LINVILLE, b. 18 Mar 1922 in Placer Co. CA Bonnie LINVILLE, b. 20 Mar 1924 in Placer Co. CA Freda LINVILLE, b. 20 Feb 1926 in Sacramento Co. CA 1920 Census of Aumsville, OR: Earl I. LINVILLE, age 36, born OR, parents born KY/MO Orla L. LINVILLE, wife, age 25, born OR, parents born CA/MO Elden L. LINVILLE, son, age 3 years + 10 months, born OR Orbin E. LINVILLE, son, age 2 years + 5 months, born OR I'm hoping to locate someone from this LINVILLE Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. Hi This is a real long shot I am trying to find any relatives of a family TUKE that was living in Sacramento in the 1910 & 1920 Census. 1. Sept 1864 deaths
    2. Betty
    3. As someone mentioned (sorry, I accidentally deleted the message), the deaths on Sept 5 and 6, 1864 were due to the exlposion of a steamer boiler. I am going to transcribe a litte re that soon. Tragically, there were several of these, two notably being Jan 1855 and Feb 1856. The sac library I go to does not have microfilm for Jan 1855, and the Feb 1856 is hit and miss. But What I did find out is that it was not uncommon for the passenger log to be lost in the accident. So there were persons burned beyond recognition and/or drowned in the river who may have never been identified. Betty

    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Earl Francis GEITNER which was taken at the Baldwin Studio in Sacramento, California. The photograph appears to have been taken sometime in the 1880's with Earl's age noted as 7 months and 3 weeks at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to find information regarding Earl Francis GEITNER b. 8 Aug 1890 in Sacramento, CA to parents Lewis S. GEITNER and Mary E. CARTER. Earl Francis GEITNER died 10 Sept 1958 in San Francisco, CA. In 1900 the family was living in Sutter, CA with census records providing the following information: Lewis S.
