    3. We corresponded some time ago about a Carus WILSON born 1859 in Gosport, Hants. He was a draper, and married one of my father's half-sisters. We think he must have been named after the famous CARUS-WILSON family, but there seems to be no genealogical connection. 3. Arthur, I have no record of Carus Wilson, b. Gosport 1859. Try the newly published 1911 Census, or the earlier ones. It could be that one of his female ancestors was a C-W (the printed records tended not to bother too much with the girls!) Or he could have been the victim of Victorian snobbery, which led to the creation of many genealogical legends. If you can get hold of a copy of his birth certificate, it should give his mother's maiden name, which might give you a clue. Good luck, Robin Morgan-Giles. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Arthur French" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2009 12:09 PM Subject: Re: [CARUS-WILSON] Carus-Wilson family > We corresponded some time ago about a Carus WILSON born 1859 in Gosport, > Hants.
