    1. [CARTER-L] John Carter Mystery Man
    2. Hi Everyone, We are still looking for a wife for John Carter born between 1720 and 1730 in England, NJ or PA. We know he died in 1811 in Greene County, TN. We're pretty sure his parents were John Carter and Sarah Packer. The children we have listed for him are: Daniel Carter born 1745 - 1747, John Carter Jr. born 1755 - 1756, Jacob Carter born 1758, Dorotha or Dorothy Carter born 1760, Abraham Carter born 1762, Penelope Eleanor Carter born 1764, James Carter born 1768 and Rebecca Carter born 1770. John traveled with several other Carter family members from PA to VA to TN. As for a wife for John there have been a few suggestions: 1. Hannah Cope - Not true. She did marry a John Carter who sounds very much like this John Carter but the death date, death place and children are wrong. 2. Prescilla Williams has a marriage date of June 25, 1747 in PA. If anyone knows anything about her please tell me. All I have been able to find is the marriage info. 3. Rebecca Gideon/Giedon, all we can find is the name written on some old family sheets but no further information. 4. Sarah Baker/Packer - Not true. This was his mother. 5. Dorcus/Dorotha ??, this one is probably correct but they didn't marry until about 1781 in Surry County, NC, so she wasn't the mother to any of the children. 6. Isabell/Isabel Haveland/Haviland seems to be the most popular one but so far no one has given any proof of it. There is a Isabell Haveland who married a Nicholas Carter but could there have been two Isabel Haveland's? Her name can be found connected to him in the LDS records and the Greene County Historic Book but no one says what record they found it in, bible, marriage certificate, court record or etc. Any input about this family is welcomed and appreciated.
