PLEASE HELP! I have been watching the list for about six months now. It seems that there are many Carters in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas areas. My Carters are known to have been in Mississippi, Arkansas and Texas. My great great grandfather was Lecurgust (Licurgust) Barton Carter. He was born April 1, 1851 in Mississippi to I.A. and Nancy Carter. He married Amanda Frances McMath on December 23, 1874 in Lowndes County, Mississippi and moved to Conway County, Arkansas. L.B. and Amanda had 2 sons, William Edgar (b.1/21/1877) and Robert Dowdle, my great grandfather, (b. 6/19/1882). Amanda died when Robert was 1 year old on July 8, 1883. Licurgust died when Robert was 5 years old in 1887. The boys were raised by Amanda's Sister and taken to Hill County, Texas. This is all I know about Licurgust. The information above came from the Carter family bible. I hope there is a distant relative out there who may be able to shed light on L.B. Carter, his parents, or siblings.
