Dear <DELDRIDGE@aol.com. & friends, (Re: CARTER-D Digest V98 #298; X-Message: #2; 25 Dec 1998 Subj: CARTER - ABSTRACTS OF REV. WAR PENSION FILES (Part 1 of 6) Thanks for the Abstracts. The WATROUS name in the following abstract about AARON CARTER caught my attention because his widow applied in Middlesex County, CT. My John Carter, Jr b. 12 May 1720 at Killingworth, Middlesex, CT married his 3rd wife, Sarah WATEROUS on 25 Nov 1760 when my gr gr grandfather, Jabez CARTER, (her stepson), would have been eight years old. My gr gr gr grandfather, Jabez Carter, according to Massachusetts Soldiers & Sailors in the Revolution (Vol 3, pg 154) Carter, Reading Mass., (Also given Woburn), enlisted as a private in Continental Army. He served four days in John Waltons company, Col. David Greens regiment, which marched on the Alarm (Lexington) on April 19, 1775. He also was in the seventh company, Col. Thomas Nixons Fifth (also given as sixth) regement. The Continental Army paid accounts for his service from March 10, 1777 to Dec 31, 1779 and credited to the town of Athol. His military records include certified ato camp near Peekskill, Feb 16, 1778; also Col. Calvin Smiths company, Col Nixons regiment. He is listed on muster roll for May 1779 dated Highlands; enlisted March 10, 1777 for three years, pay rolls for August to October 1779; also Col. Daniel Whitings Company, Col. Nixons regiment; pay rolls for November and December 1779, dated Soldiers Fortune. The Continental Army paid accounts for his services from Jan 1, 1780 to his discharge on March 10, 1780. It's interesting to me that this Aaron Carter family is a "colored" CARTER family and mine is "white". We've always wondered where my sister's lovely "olive" complexion came from! Hmmmm! Guess I'll have to research more in Middlesex Co., CT. If anyone knows more, please write to me. Thanks! Mary K.
