You probably received an OCR (optical character recognition) program with your scanner, but even then, accuracy can sometimes be only 75-80%. If used with a good word processor like WORD or WORDPERFECT you can get accuracy up to 90% or better. This is better than re-typing but can still be rather time consuming to correct spelling and context errors.
