To all our researching friends on the Carter discussion group: A posting went out Sunday March 14 from Selida Carter who is new to the list. Her information is critical to all of us who are researching Carter's in Texas. Selida's ancestor was David Carter and he was born in Texas in 1829. This event documents one of the few Carters who were in Texas before 1830. Texas State Genealogy Society issues a certificate " Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred " to recognize colonist who were with Austin at the time he fulfilled his contract with Mexico. I have done extensive research (and have Old Three Hundred certificate on another family line) on The Old Three Hundred and there were very, very, few Carters documented to be in Texas during that time period, and were probably related to Samuel Carter who died in Texas with the Yellow Fever about 1827. Anyone born in Texas in 1829, most likely, was born to a Texas "colonist" family. We need to pay attention to Selida's postings, and offer any information to assist her. I am excited regarding her future findings, which will be important to all Texas Carter descendants. I hope I can tie my information in with hers ! Nancy in Texas
