I'm trying to unravel a knot. My Carter ancestor is Charles Ewell Carter who married Keziah Walters - see first bit of text below. I'm told this Charles was the Charles E. Carter, son of George Carter and Frances Neale? - see 2nd bit of text. I'd love to see something fairly substantial (whatever that is) that shows the transition from E. in George Carter's family to Ewell in Charles Ewell Carter (my line through his daughter Lucy who married Oliver Hall). The spouse of Keziah Walters had the name Charles Ewell Carter on their marriage certificate. Spencer Carter was the surety. Did the above George Carter leave a will in Halifax Co, VA abt 1784? Does George ever, anywhere refer to his son George Ewell? I've been told of Carter-Ewell-Ball marriages but have found none proximate enough to account for the "Ewell"!
