JoAnn, I am responding to your query because I am also trying to research Carters in Greene Co., Tenn, and we may have a connection here. However, I really know very little, other than what I found on a LDS Ancestral File. I have written to the submitters of this info, but never received a reply, so I have no idea whether any of it is accurate or not. My gg grandparents were Newton Hartman and Eliza Jane Maloney. Eliza's parents were William A. Maloney and Nancy Keller. Of this much I am pretty certain, and all of these individuals seem to have been born in Greene Co. William A. and Nancy were married there in 1843. The LDS Ancestral File provided the following info: Nancy Keller, b. Apr. 4, 1827, Greene Co, TN, died Sept. 2, 1890, Greene father: Samuel Keller mother: Rebeckah Elenor Carter Rebeckah Elenor Carter, b. May 20, 1793, Greene TN, married July 5, 1815 died Sept 7, 1876, and buried Albany, Greene, TN father: John Carter Jr. mother: Elizabeth ? John Carter Jr., b. James Jefferis, March 3, 1728, Christ Church, Philadelphia, PA 2. George Carter I feel compelled to stress again that this data has not been confirmed in any way by me and so I have no idea if any of it is accurate. I have found complete nonsense in the Ancestral Files on other occasions. But when I look at your migration pattern, the PA to NC to TN part seems to fit, as well as the name. Perhaps we are at least talking about relatives here. Also, I am posting this in hopes that others researching Carters may have some information on part or all of the above to help me piece this together correctly. I'd love to hear from anybody with any insights on any of this information.
