I am looking for George W. Carter listed in the 1850 census of Cocke Co. Tenn. He married Nancy ? but she may have been a second wife. There is a George and William Carter together on the 1839 tax rolls in Cocke Co but not the 1830 census. There is a George Carter in the Carter co. census of 1830 but none after that and the age is right for my Carter in Cocke Co. He had children Julia, Emeline, Francis J., George, Rebecca (who I come thru) and Crockett. Is the Cocke Co. Carter the same as the Carter Co. Carter? (That was a mouthful) What was Nancy's last name? Also there was a Nancy Fisher living with them...who was she? I saw a reference to a George Carter in Va. who moved to Tenn. but was married to someone else. The Va. Carters also had Crockett as a middle name. I have always been told that my greatgrandmother was 1/4 Indian which would make either Nancy or George full Indian (and I am just assuming Nancy is the mother. She was also supposed to be a 2nd cousin to Davy Crockett....but I don't plan to pursue that....Any help on any point would be appreciated charlotte rhome
