I am searching for ancestors and descendants of Hardy Jesse Carter, b. 1736 in Germany, married Lydia Skipper. He settled in what is now Darlington Co., SC. I believe he died after 1786, probably in Greeneville Co., SC. His son Matthew was born 21 May 1787, Darlington Co., SC m. 1820 Catherine Boran, and died 1885. Matthew's son William T. Carter, b. 1821 Greeneville Co., SC m. 1844 Amanda Fendley, d. ca. 1901 in Jefferson Co., AL William T.'s son Matthew Gilbert, b. 1857, Ashville, NC, moved to AL with his family 1864, married 1884, TN Mary Belle Johnson and died in Long Beach CA 1936.
