Dear Carter Cousins, I sure am missing the family history postings we had until a couple of months ago. What's happened to everyone ? Can anyone on-line access Texas Bastrop or Travis COUNTY Census 1884-1900 ? I need proof of my grandfather's parents. He was born in Texas after the 1880 Texas State census, the 1890 Texas State census was destroyed and we can't find him in the 1900 Texas State census.. Please read my posting below and if anyone can help it will be appreciated. MY GRANDFATHER: Oda Monroe Carter. Born 7/16/1884, probably in Bastrop or Travis County Texas. WHAT I NEED TO FIND: I need a document (other than Odas death certificate) to evidence that John & Julia Carter were the parents of Oda Monroe Carter. A census listing will suffice. HIS PARENTS: We know for a positive fact his parents were John Bruce and Julia Ann Carter. They were married 11/17/1877 in Travis County Texas, we have copy of certificate. At the time of marriage, Johns parents (James & Salina Carter) were living in Webberville or in/near Osage, Texas. Julias parents (John L. and Rebecca Boatright) were probably in Lavaca County as she is listed with them at home in the 1870 Lavaca County census. PLACES OF PARENTS RESIDENCE: We have not been able to locate John & Julia Carter in any Texas census. Another son, Edgar, was born 2/10/1890 in Bastrop County as documented on the sons death certificate. Odas children, all very elderly, tell us that John & Julia remained in the Travis, Bastrop and Comanche areas. MARRIAGE OF ODA MONROE CARTER: Oda Monroe Carter and Minnie Maud Presley eloped in 1902 and were married in Hamilton County. DEATH OF ODA CARTER: Oda died in Dallas County in 1965. We have a copy of the death certificate. His mothers name is correctly documented. However, his fathers name is incorrectly documented as Bruce M. Carter. Apparently, the family under stress, combined parts of Odas fathers name (Bruce) and Odas middle initial M. We have been told that Oda was living at home with his parents from the time of his birth in 1884 until his marriage in 1902. Oda never served in any branch of the military. He never owned property. Thanks for any help, Leland Carter
