    1. [CARTER-L] John Carter died 1811 in TN
    2. Hi Fellow Carter Researchers, I know this maybe long but please be patient with me as I am starting over at square one. I and several others thought we had found the wives and parents of the John Carter who died in 1811 in Greene County, TN. We thought he was: 1. the son of John Carter and Sarah Packer 2. born about 1723 in Gloucester County, NJ and died in 1811 in Greene County, TN. 3. married Priscilla Williams June 25, 1747 in PA and Rebecca Stuart January 23, 1754 in Brunswick County, VA. We now know he could not be the son of John Carter and Sarah Packer or the husband of Priscilla Williams because of how the Carter's figured into the "lawful heirs" case of Mathias Aspden, Jr. Sarah Packer had a sister Rebecca who married Mathias Aspden. Rebecca Packer and Mathias Aspden had Mathias Aspden. This is what was uncovered by a Warren Packer, Mary Ensley Weinatz and others: John Carter son of John Carter and Sarah Packer of Gloucester Co, NJ died intestate was married to Priscilla Williams. John died in 1792. Samuel Carter was appointed administrator Jan. 14, 1793 with Ephraim Bee as fellow bondsman. The inventory of the estate was taken Jan. 28, 1793 (NJ Archives Series 1, vol. 38). He served in the Rev. War. John and Priscilla's children were born in NJ and were as follows: Elvery Carter married Cornelius McDermot Sarah Carter married Isaac Hewitt Joanna Carter married John Wallender Samuel Carter John Carter Edward Carter Jonathan Carter died unmarried Israel Carter died young Rebecca Carter died young What we now think: 1. John was born between 1726 and 1730. 2. His fathers name could have been John, Daniel or Abraham. 3. He was married by 1747. 4. He was probably married more then once. We are pretty sure his children were: Daniel Carter born June 27, 1748 Abraham Carter born 1750 John Carter Jr. born Sept. 1, 1756 Jacob Carter born 1758 Dorothy Carter born 1760 Penelope Eleanor Carter born 1760 James Carter born Jan. 1, 1768 Rebecca Carter born 1770 We are willing to take any help or clues anyone can give us. Ofcourse we are more then willing to share what we know, which at this point isn't much. Jo Ann
