In Lancaster Co, VA Deeds & Wills (1782-1785) vol 22 pg 26 I found a partial settlement of the estate of Joseph CARTER, dated 28 July 1782. >From it I derived that Joseph's wife's name was Lettice and after his death she married either Rodham (?) or John Lunceford (Lanceford?). The executor is Matthew Myers. Witnesses: James Ball, James Gordon, James Tapscott. A following connected settlement refers to a former court order of Lancaster Co, VA dated August 1778 which would indicate that Joseph had died prior to Aug 1778. Now Mrs Lettie Lunceford (Lanceford) is also dec'd. This settlement involves the division of the Dower negroes and is dated 1 Jan 1784. Does family "ring a bell" with anyone who can tell me something about Joseph? Lynn Marion
