I recently met by e-mail, Kay Rohrer who lives in Geauga County, Ohio and a descent of Carter's from Georgia. It turns out that her "southern" Carters were probably not related to my 'north-eastern" Carters. My Jabez and Luman Carters moved from Benson, Rutland Co, Vermont about 1830 to Kirtland, Geauga, Ohio. I know a lot about my Carters, because some of them were early Mormons, but there is still a lot more about them I'd like to know. For some reason-there were Carters relatives in the Kirtland area who did not maintain close ties with one another. Maybe it was antagonism that was stirred up in those days about religion---or maybe it was that the separate Carter families were just busy trying to survive. As most researchers have experienced, I too have contacted many "cousins" from whom I just have not been able to get a response. My guess is that they are just too busy with other things and/ or just are not interested. So this is a plea. If you live in or know about Carter's in the Kirtland, Geauga County area of Ohio, I'd love to know more about them. I was in an orphanage as a child and am determined to learn more about my roots. My mother was Mary Elizabeth CARTER b. 11 May 1915 d. 16 Jun 1998, the daughter of Simeon Carter and Nettie Lucinda Rippin of Painesville, Ohio Thanks for any help.
