Dear Bryan, Your problem finding ancestors of McKinney are parallel to my search for parents, grandparents of Joel Carter until last week when I found someone who knows all the answers. Even though Jackson Co is where the land now is, please look in the census and records of that Washington Co AND ALL COUNTIES TOUCHING IT. My Carters migrated to Washington Co., Illinois (it was a popular name) but I found all their info in surrounding cos. Have you considered contacting Washington Co., Illinois?
