I need help!! I have been going through the archives and hope that someone on this list will recognize my Carter Family, the founder of the "Witness Protection Program". John Carter was born, according to his headstone June 9, 1769 in 'somewhere", Virginia according to his 9 children and census records. John married Mary Lehr/Lahr/Lohr/??? Dec. 25, 1769 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Witness and bond - John Beaber, by George Fronch. This is all we have documented in Virginia. There is a daughter, Rebecca Burke Carter born one year prior to the marriage (whoops)! Have no idea where the Burke came from, however, she handed it down to her first born son and none of the other children had the Burke name. Children: Nancy born in Virginia, married an Allison as did Rebecca, Nancy was born 9 months after the marriage. The there was John, George, Isaac, William Allen, Robert, Thomas and Mary C. Carter. John and Nancy Carter went to Ohio around 1802 and settled in Gallia County, Ohio - All of the boys listed place of birth as Ohio, first son, John was born in 1802 in Ohio.
