Beloved husband of Dorothy Carter, cherished father of Sterling Keeley, Christine Thompson and her husband Robert, Philip Carter and his wife Stephanie , and Scott Carter and his wife Jolynn; devoted grandfather of Geoffrey, Erin, Christopher, Kelly and Victoria. Born October 6, 1916 in Phillips, Maine. John was raised in Portland, Oregon. He was a graduate of Reed College (class of 1939); he was an active member and leader of the Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout. His business career spanned many years in San Francisco as a stockbroker. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Lieutenant in the US Navy in the South Pacific, and was a long-time member and Elder of 1st Presbyterian Church in Burlingame, and a member of SIRS Chapter #1. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.m. Thursday January 10, 2002, at 1stPresbyterian Church at Burlingame, 1500 Easton Drive (at El Camino Real).
