I am still looking for Joseph Carter b 1799 Va. He married Sarah Lavender b abt 1818 Amherst Co. They married 1833 in Amherst. I believe she was the daughter of Allen Lavender and Elizabeth Blair. Elizabeth married James Stratton in 1799 and then married Allen Labender in 1808. I have not been able to find anything on Joseph Carter. They had two children in Amherst Co. and then the moved to Botetourt Co. where they had two more. Va Mary Jane b 1838 Amherst Co m Richard Sinnett 1854 Botetourt Co. Va William Henry b 1845 Botetourt Co m Nannie Mildred Clements 1867 Botetourt Co Va Chastain A b 1848 Botetourt Co never married I believe Joseph may belong to the Buckingham Carter's as he named his daughter Chastain and the Buckingham Carter's married into the Chastain family.
