My John Carter was born in VA. I have no knowledge of his parents or where in Va he was born. He married Elizabeth Moore in 1813 in Barren Co., KY. By 1920, John and Elizabeth Carter had 3 daughters and one son. They lived in the part of White Co., IL that became Hamilton Co., near other families that had recently moved there from Barren Co., KY. John Carter named his first son James Simeon Carter. James was born 1819 in Hamilton Co IL. Sometime before 1826, the family moved to Island Grove TWP, Sangamon Co., IL where a son, Thomas and a daughter Mary Frances was born. In 1840, they lived in Loami TWP, Sangamon Co., IL near Elizabeth's parents and other family members. James Simeon Carter married Ann Hodgerson Meacham, a widow. They had a total of 6 children only two-Elias Frank and Elizabeth Frances who lived to adulthood. After Ann's death, James married Nancy Ellen Bush Sullivan, another widow. James and Nancy had 3 children Ellen, John Berry and Lou Ada Carter. I have many descendants of James Simeon Carter(also known as Sims Carter) but I am at a brick wall with John Carter b in VA, Margarette Davis
