My earliest proven Carter ancestor is Frederick Alexander Carter (1775, Amelia Co, VA-1842, Laurens Co, GA) m. Sally Hightoer. Their son Thomas (1806-1870) m. Nancy whose son, Joseph O. W. (3/22/1849, Washington Co, GA-6/12/1920, Johnson Co, GA) m. Nancy Elizabeth Beasley. My grandfather Joseph Washington Carter was b. 3/16/1887, Laurens Co, GA and d. 5/7/1952, Tattnall Co, GA.
