I don't know, but I have some clues that indicate a possibility that Solomon could have been the father of James. There was a Solomon Carter in Montgomery Co. KY as early as 1800 (tax list index.) I do have some information about the Williams. According to a gedcom I found, they were father and son, both named William Aylett. The father was born in Spotsylvania VA. His father was also William, who was the son of Rev. War Captain John Carter and Sarah Kenyon. There is neither a James nor a Joseph listed in the gedcom. Apparently, there are probate records in Montgomery County for William Aylett Carter, but not for any of the other Carters who were there in the early 1800's. Nancy --- "Kitty B.
