    3. The Aylett connection is interesting. I don't think my James was ever in Ohio, but I'm not sure. As far as I know, none of his children were born in Ohio. His 2nd wife (Eliza Jane Evans) and her children were all born in OH, but James and Eliza were married in 1850 in Jasper County Illinois. Bourbon County KY could be a possibility, considering the evolution of the counties: Bourbon County formed 1785. Clark - 1792 from Bourbon and Fayette. Montgomery - 1796 from Clark. Bath - 1811 from Montgomery. (Kentucky became a state in 1792) So it's conceivable that a person could have stayed in one place and lived in four different counties and in both VA and KY. If my James was born in 1800, his parents could not possibly have been born in KY. I'm guessing they were probably born in VA. I'm still convinced that James and Joseph in Montgomery County KY were probably related to each other, but so far the William Aylett Carters just don't seem to connect to them. Do you have any more information about your James H. Carter?
