The 1820 Bath County census shows a Joseph Carter and Joseph Jr. A fellow researcher found Montgomery Co, KY land records from about 1828. There are two transactions involving Joseph Reffitt. One is witnessed by James Carter and the other is witnessed by Joseph Carter. My g.g. grandfather, James Carter, born about 1800 in KY, was closely associated with Joseph Reffitt for a long time. James married Margurite Reffitt (Reffett) who was probably Joseph Reffitt's niece. Question: Who was Joseph Carter and was he related to James?
