I have an Enfield No. 1, Mk III*, that's wire wrapped for grenade launching and I have some questions regarding it, as I'm getting ready to clean it up the best I can, considering the wire wrap. #1: I've been told that I'm basically S.O.L. on any attempts to remove the wire wrap in order to clean the metal surfaces under the wood, and hope to put it back on again. If I took it off, it would be just a #1, Mk III* with ugly wire compressions on the wood. Is this basically it? No way to clean it underneath and just "hope" that it was sufficiently greased up enough to keep the barrel from rusting away under the wood? Any thoughts or suggestions, from the Brit Commonwealth affectionados out there? #2: Lastly, the rifle is marked: Crown G.R.I. 1944 OK, I know it was manufactured in 1944, but does G.R.I. stand for: Georgius Rex, Imperator or GEORGIUS REX ISHAPORE ?? Doing a Google search, I've found both. I naturally, presume that it's an Ishapore manufactured rifle? (right???) Chuck
