    3. Hello, I'm trying to contact Sandra Carter Crim. She posted here over two years ago regarding Edward Carter of Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Sandra are you still out there? I believe Edward Carter was the son of Charles Carter who was the son of Thomas Carter & Mary Kilpatrick-Carter of Virgina. I believe Edward Carter was the brother of Robert G. Carter who was born in Virginia around 1791. Edward was probably a few years older than Robert and was probably also born in Virginia. Robert married a woman named Tabitha. I have more information on Edward and Robert and other Carter family members from Oglethorpe County, Georgia if you are still interested. > Author: Sandra Carter Crim Date: 25 Mar 2003 2:51 AM GMT > >I am searching for my ancestors. 3. Catherine, I don't have anything on your family, but it's possible that "Ray" was only the name the family knew him by. My dad's uncle LeRoy Carter was known only by Roy to everyone but family and HIS uncle Isadore Lincoln Carter is buried under a stone that only says "Lincoln Carter". One of LeRoy's brothers, Jack Hammond, is a mystery, since we're pretty sure he was not a half- or step-brother and everyone else is a Carter... Good luck! 3. My 2 x great grandfather was Thomas Charles CARTER. It appears he was an illegitimate child of Sarah CARTER who later married James GODLEY. Thomas was born on 21st July 1845. He migrated to Australia with his mother, step father, brother and 2 half siblings in 1858. They then lived in the New England region of NSW. Sarah CARTER's parents were Thomas CARTER and Lucy PATCHING? Her siblings as known to date are all good Biblical names, Naomi, Mary, Ephraim and perhaps more. These were born in Falmer or Brighton Sussex in the 1820s. I would love to make contact with any CARTERs from that area in that time. I believe there are several CARTER families who came to Australia who were from Falmer and Brighton, and I would love nothing better than to piece them all together! I have several Australian certificates to help match up people. Lynette in Australia Lynette Begg P.O. 3. Searching for information about the CARTER families mentioned in the following excerpt: Logan Esarey, in his book History of Warrick, Spencer and Perry Counties, IN (Chicago: Goodspeed Bros & Co, 1885), writes on page 251, "Peggy [Meeks], the other, married Thomas Carter, brother of Joseph and Barney Carter, both of whom yet live in Luce Township [IN]." On page 265, he refers to "Jo. Carter, yet living at the advanced age of seventy-seven years ...", which would place him being born as late as 1808. He also refers on this same page to Barney Carter, Sr, and William Carter as early settlers, although there is no clarification as to whether they are brothers, father/son or what. On page 428, he lists William Carter and wife among the members of the Bakers Creek Regular Baptist Church. (Just across the county line in Spencer County, IN) Barb

    3. Hello! My name is William R.Barker, and I am new to the Carter mailing list. I have been researching my family history now for about a year. For the short time I have been researching, I have gathered a large amount of information. ( I have been very lucky). For about 30 years I have been trying to find my half brother, with very little luck. I just found out last week his mothers maidden name was Carter, and I was hopping some of the folks on the list might be able to help me. I will list what little information I have. The main thing I am trying to find is my half brothers, mothers married name. Gary is going by his stepfathers name. If I can find that name, I feel I can find my brother. 1. My brother was born with the name Gary Barker 2. His mothers maiden name was Martha Carter 3. She was born in California, and married my father (Boyd RL Barker) June 3, 1939 in Fresno, Ca. 4. Gary was born between 1940 & 42 5. Marthas Father was Benjamin Carter b. in Kentucky 6. Marthas Mother was Julia Lynch b. in Kentucky I believe Gary is or was working for the city or county of Sacramento, Ca. If any one can help me with my search, it would be greatly appriciated. Thank You For Your Time, William Robert Barker

    3. Hi to all, I'm new to the list and looking for info on a relative: I was told his name was Jay Floyd Carter. His name may actually be J. Floyd Carter, Floyd Jay Carter, Floyd J. Carter, or some other permutation you might be able to think of. I don't have birth or death info (he may, in fact, still be living), but know that he was a major in the US Army in the late 1950s, and was stationed at the Presidio in SF California at least in 1958 and/or 1959. The family member who told me about this relative died several years ago, and I don't have any other information on this Carter in my family. And I doubt there is any info that would actually tie him to the rest of the family. If anyone has any info that could be possibly associated with this individual, I'd be most happy to get it. Back-channel if you feel the need. Thanks in advance, Cheryl Johnson

    3. Hi, I'm new to this list and hoping someone can help in my search for my grandparents whom I never met. Elizabeth CARTER was born in1861 in Audley Staffordshire the daughter of Thomas CARTER (a Coal miner) and I believe, Mary Ann STANWAY. She married Benjamin BELL (a Coal Miner) in 1883 at the Parish Church, Audley, Staffordshire where they were resident. (I have a copy of the certificate) The marriage was witnessed by George Proctor and Mary Pauli, the certificate being signed by John Pauli. They subsequently moved to London after Benjamin had an accident, and emigrated to Canada in 1905 where Elizabeth died in 1949. I would appreciate any help of where to go next. Joye
