Perhaps "Ann" or "Anna" is a "nick-name" for Nancy. Good luck in your search. Franklin Ross ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
Hi List: I have a puzzle. I am looking for Ann Carter/chater who was suppoesedly born in Kettering NHS England. Every Ann that I have chased down in the surrounding area died. I have looked for Hannah, Susan, Susanna, Betty etc. Ann married Thomas Hawkes who was from Grafton Underwood, Northampton 8 Nov 1751. The original parish registures from Kettering are laying in the Northampton Record Office in rolls and appear to be covered with soot. A plea to them to see if they can be restored has been sent. In the mean time. I searched the Kettering registures that are available. She is the only one listed as Carter....all of the rest of the like Surnames are Chater. The marriage rec says BOTP. I can't find a birth or a burial....Can someone help or give me a place to look. Thank you for any thought or help! Regards Nina
Hello! I am new to this list and joined for the purpose of trying to prove or disprove a relationship to June Carter Cash (wife of singer Johnny Cash.) I would greatly appreciate anyone's help! My grandmother, who passed away in 1990, was Flossie Pearl Waits of Cincinnati, Washington Co., Arkansas. She used to speak of June's mother, Maybelle Addington Carter, and stated several times to different ones in the family that June was a cousin. I am guessing that the connection must be through the Carter line because I don't know of any connections to the Addington name. My grandmother's father, Albert Ashley Waits, had two sisters who married Carter brothers. Mary Jane Waits (1851-1918) married Charles Powell Carter (1836-1924) and they moved from northwest Arkansas to McKinney, Texas. Rhoda Elizabeth Waits (1848-1909) married Charles' brother, Lewis Benton Carter (1844-1930) and lived in Madison Co., Arkansas. Charles Powell Carter and Lewis Benton Carter were sons of George Washington Carter and Nancy Hasty. George was born Dec 23, 1800 in Laurens Co., SC and died May 7, 1875 in Washington Co., Arkansas. I believe George was the son of John Carter and Isibiah? and grandson of George Carter and Naomi Turk. I know very little about the Carter family and would truly appreciate any help in finding the connection of which my grandmother used to speak. Thank you! Dave Duncan Ohio
have you tried 'googling' Maybelle Addinton ? you will find she was b. and raised in VA. check out this URL: http://www.silcom.com/%7Epeterf/ideas/genealogy.htm Beth Hancock Cross ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Duncan" <Dave.Duncan@mvnu.edu> To: <CARTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2005 10:17 AM Subject: [CARTER-L] JUNE CARTER CASH Hello! Hello, I am trying to locate descendants of Secretary Carter who was born in Virginia in the late 1700's but moved to Oglethorpe County, Georgia in the early 1800's and then moved to Walton County, Georgia. He was the son of Robert Carter and is named as a grandson by Thomas Carter of Mecklenburg County, Virginia in his Will probated in 1796. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vameckle/willindex/C_69.htm I think Secretary Carter had three sons but this is not certain. 1 - Jeptha Carter b: ~1806 in Georgia 2 - Willis M. Carter b: ~1822 in Georgia 3 - John Carter b: ~1818 in Georgia It is believed that the oldest son, Jeptha Carter, moved to Walker County, Georgia with his wife, Lucinda Hardin, and had three sons. 1 - Joseph L. Carter b: ~1835 in Georgia 2 - Secretary A. Carter b: ~1840 in Georgia 3 - Benjamin C. J. Carter b: ~1842 in Georgia It is believed that the oldest son of Jeptha stayed in Georgia and that the two younger sons moved to Texas. Less information is known about Secretary's sons Willis and John but I think they stayed in Walton County, Georgia. Some additional information on this Carter family is posted here: Secretary Carter http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ck11281812&id=I00159 I don't know where the unusual name of "Secretary" came from unless it was from John Carter (~1689 - ~1743) of Virginia who was known as the Secretary of Colony of Virginia. Possibly there is a connection there but this is just a guess. If anyone has information on this family, I would very much like to hear from you. Thank you. --- _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Hope someone on the Carter list can help solve this. I have a Addison Leander Filmore "Phil" Carter who was born 1-31-1851 Carroll Co. Tn. and died 1-5-1922 in Oak Bluff, Ar. He is buried beside his wife in Woodlawn Heights Cemetery, in Rector, Ar. Clay Co. I got Phil's birth and death dates from Carter researcher Cella Mae Carter's book. Also I have visited Phil's grave site, and comfirmed these dates. My problem is, Phil is listed as head of house in the 1930 census in Rector, Ar. Clay Co. living with his daughter. He is listed as widowed, but same book and same tombstone records show his wife Aurelia Clementine Rowland Carter didn't die until 1932. I'm certain that the 1930 census records are for the same Phil Carter, and daughter Mittie Mae. Mittie Mae never married, and had a successful real estate business and insurance co. in Rector. The Mittie Mae in the 30 census is listed as being in the real estate and insurance business. Any ideas? Thanks Joe
I am searching for more information on John C Carter. He was born 1831 in Ohio. His mother's name is Elizabeth and according to 1880 census she was born in 1800 in Virginia. I am wondering about father, brothers, sisters.... John married Elizabeth Z Mathews bef 1856. Had four children: Zerelda born abt 1856 in either Greencastle, Missouri or Iowa; George W born 1858 in Missouri, Mary Jane born Dec 11, 1861 in Denver, Colorado; and John WIlliam born Mar 14, 1864 in Boulder, Colorado. Mary Jane married my great grandfather, Charles Alexander Evans in Montana in 1881. I know Zerelda married Willie Gilmore, George W married Mary E ? and John William married Mary Jane Muirbrook. Any one link up with this family and have further information they are willing to share with me. Catherine A Elliott --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Does anyone have a record of a marriage license, for a wedding of John CARTER jr.,or John J Carter, to a Elizabeth Ann Carter, in Boone Co., 11-23-1829. Any help appreciated... Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net
Hi List I am looking for Ann Carter who married Thomas Hawkes 8 Nov 1751 in Kettering. When I looked for her in the parish registures...She was the only Carter. There were many Chaters. So far the only Ann Carter who might work is Ann Carter born 1728 in Harpole. Don't know the parents. She would have been 23...just the right age. Can anyone give me some help on this or is anyone searching on this line? Regards Nina
Hi, Rita, I have a connection to a Charles Carter who was born in Goochland County, Virginia in 1752 but he moved to Georgia around 1802. I have posted what I know about my Carter family here: Charles Carter http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ck11281812&id=I00156 If your son-in-law is a Carter then he is eligible to participate in this Carter DNA Surname Project. http://www.carter-cousins.org/ This project has already identified 16 different Carter family lines plus there are several others who are not from any of these 16 family groups. If your son-in-law participates in the Carter DNA Surname Project then he can find out if his connection is with one of the known 16 Carter family lines or of a unique line. >From: "Rita Gipe" <rgipe@bellsouth.net> >To: CARTER-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [CARTER-L] Carter/Mayo >Date: Thu, 30 Jun 2005 14:21:15 -0400 > >Hi list my name is Rita Gipe my daughter married into the Carter family and >would like to trace their roots for her children. This is what I know.Daniel >Carter from Goochland County Virginia married Elizabeth L. Hi all, Two of my websites which have Virginia genealogy information are: Old Virginia Obituaries, 1790-1940: http://virginiaobits.homestead.com/ and Miscellaneous Virginia Genealogy: http://vagenealogy.homestead.com/ there is a search engine on both sites. I hope you find someone in your family tree! I do my genealogy researching mostly at the Library of Va. where I either copy or note down obits and records infromation and I then transcribe it to my sites. God bless, Beth deliaesther@att.net

Hi, Just checking in again to see if there are any CARTERs on the list with ancestors from Sussex? Falmer in Sussex to be exact, but Brighton is also close enough. All CARTERs in Falmer seem to be related, and many came to Australia in mid 1800s. Also, anyone with CARTERs in NSW Australia? Uralla in particular, but the New England district is close enough. I've got lots of them, 4 brothers and their girl cousin who married a GODLEY. Hope to find a contact. Lynette Begg P.O.
