    3. I can't speak for the Wallace or Hardin lists since I'm not on either. But I don't think the level of activity on the Carter list is all that low. I am on several Rootsweb lists and several have far less activity. Of course, all of us would prefer lots of people posting items of particular interest to ourselves. It just doesn't work that way. Perhaps a roll call would generate some interest. It's called CensusMate and it helps you organize your pre-1850 census information. I could try to describe it but you will probably be better off just going to the web site at: http://www.censusmate.com/ This is a good site that fully explains how the program works and how it can help you keep your records straight. CensusMate, created by John Haynes, is a free program but if you find the program useful, you can send John $10, which he doubles and sends to the Duke Eye Clinic to support their research on Macular Degeneration. Some of you know my husband Bill had a complete right knee replacement on March 3. I am happy to report Bill is back home and recuperating well. 1. Re: Carter List....My Carters
    2. Nancy Bower
    3. I always read the messages in the hope that there will be some connection to my CARTER ancestors. Here's a little summary of my Carter line: My grandmother was Bertha Caroline "Carrie" Carter, born 1872 in Jasper Co. Illinois. She was one of (at least) ten children. I'm still searching for information about her sister Ann, who was born in 1865 in IL. Carrie's parents were John Carter, b. 1842 in IL, and Frances Kibler. I have info on two siblings of John: his older brother Solomon, b. abt. 1834 in Indiana, and younger sister Cynthia, b. 1844 in IL. There were other siblings but information is very sketchy. John's father was James Carter, born about 1800 -1810 in KY. I've traced James back to Montgomery County KY. He moved to Vermillion Co. Indiana about 1830 and to Jasper Co. Illinois sometime before 1840. James was married three or four times that I know of: Polly Wagle or Margurite Reffett, Eliza Evans and Jane Cashett. I can't prove it, but I have reason to believe that James Carter's father was Solomon Carter of Montgomery Co. KY. I have very little information about this Solomon Carter, just a couple of clues that indicate he might possibly have been descended from Captain Thomas Carter. Perhaps other list members will offer a similar summary so that we can all get "reacquainted." 1. GEITNER - CARTER Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Earl Francis GEITNER which was taken at the Baldwin Studio in Sacramento, California. The photograph appears to have been taken sometime in the 1880's with Earl's age noted as 7 months and 3 weeks at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to find information regarding Earl Francis GEITNER b. 8 Aug 1890 in Sacramento, CA to parents Lewis S. GEITNER and Mary E. CARTER. Earl Francis GEITNER died 10 Sept 1958 in San Francisco, CA. In 1900 the family was living in Sutter, CA with census records providing the following information: Lewis S. GEITNER, age 52, born Nov 1847, married 11 years, born OH, parents born NY/OH, a Teamster Mary E. GEITNER, wife, age 47, born Nov 1853, married 11 years, 8 children/6 living, born WI, parents born NY/VT Earl F. GEITNER, son, age 9, born Aug 1890, born CA Ethel M. GEITNER, dau, age 8, born Jan 1892, born CA Mattie C. NILES, step-dau, age 23, born Aug 1876, born CA, parents born NY/WI, a School Teacher John J. NILES, step-son, age 22, born Dec 1877, born CA, parents born NY/WI, Railroad Shop Car Sealer Laura S. NILES, step-dau, age 18, born Feb 1882, born CA, parents born NY/WI, at School Bradford CARTER, nephew, age 21, born Sept 1879, born OR, parents born WI/OR, Railroad Shop Car Sealer Guessing that the NILES children are from Mary E. GEITNER's first marriage and Bradford CARTER is her brother's son. In 1910 I find the family still living in Sutter, CA with census records providing the following information: Louis GEITNER, age 62, 2nd marriage 21 years, born OH, parents US born, a Teamster Mary E. GEITNER, wife, age 56, 2nd marriage 21 years, 8 children/6 living, born WI, parents born NY/VT Jabes NILES, step-son, age 32, born CA, parents born NY/WI, a Real Estate Office Worker Laura NILES, step-dau, age 28, born CA, parents born NY/WI, a Primary School Teacher Earl F. GEITNER, son, age 19, born CA, a Railroad Brakeman In 1920 I can only find the Lewis GEITNER Family living in Sacramento, CA with census records providing the following information: Lewis G. GEITNER, age 72, born OH, parents born NY/OH, a House Contractor Mary M. E. GEITNER, wife, age 66, born WI, parents born NY/VT I'm hoping to locate someone from this GEITNER Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. I am trying to locate Margaret that was working a couple of years ago on Goodloe Carter. We conversed several times back about 2-3 years ago about our Carters, trying to get the lines straight. I am now looking into Goodloe Carter and found a query where you state "get in touch with you because you have that line". I am trying to narrow down possibilities still, going back to Bailey Carter. I noticed one of Goodloe's children married a Twyman, as did one of my husbands Carters. But I need to know which line Goodloe's father George was from. I know George married Frances Diane Goodloe. But, have you all ever proven who George's father was exactly? Other than just what a book might say, have you all ever found definite proof? I am hoping you can help. thanks, Kathy Wells.

    3. Is there anyone researching the Carters from Stone. In particular Moses Carter born about 1880 in Longton. Moses' father was also Moses who married Jane but I cannot find a marriage for them which probably would have taken place about 1865. Moses jnr married Wilhelmina Pollitt in 1901 but before their marriage Moses was living as a lodger with Wilhelmina and her mother Jane in Birkenhead. Would love to hear from anyone researching this line. Regards Syl - UK

Ms. Carter was the daughter of A.P. and Sara Carter. Her parents and her father's sister-in-law Maybelle Carter formed a singing trio discovered in 1927 when talent scout Ralph Peer came through the Tennessee-Virginia border town of Bristol to record mountain music. When her brother Joe died in March, Ms. Carter became the last surviving child of the original group's members. Following the death of her father in 1960, Ms. Carter dedicated her life to preserving not only the Carter Family music, but the folk and country music of Appalachia. By the Associated Press
