Hello group. I found an internet site that gives the genealogy of the Carter family (country music fame; June Carter married to Johnny Cash). This doesn't give any sources but is very interesting. It says they are descendants of Capt Thos Carter. The site is: http://www.silcom.com/~peterf/ideas/genealogy.htm Come and visit our Carter DNA site. Descendants of Thomas Carter of Barford are found in group 3. Here is the site: www.carter-cousins.org Regards, Mary Winn (Carter) Anderson

Copied Sept, 2004, from the Probate Record, Bourbon County Courthouse, Fort Scott, Kansas: "AGREEMENT AMONG HEIRS, WHEREAS Anderson G. Carter, a widower, died intestate in Bourbon County Kansas on February-11th-1920, leaving as his only heirs at law these seven children, all of them being of full legal age, towit:- Bert H. Carter, Minnie Ashford, Alma Havenhill, Stella Staley, Minnie Williamson, Bessie Mattox and Homer H. Carter." I've been unable to locate Anderson's grave or that of his father, Abraham, who I'm reasonably certain died in Bourbon County. Also unable to find a record of Abraham's probate record. This is not surprising since there was also no record of a probate record for Anderson's brother, Isadore Lincoln Carter, but I did find his grave in the Zion Cemetery, not far from Fulton, Bourbon Co., KS. See seperate note about Link Carter. BTW, many of these old towns in eastern Kansas are rapidly disappearing. Frank Ross --------------------------------- Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. I am actually looking for descendents of James CARTER, born about 1852 in Tennessee, and his son William, born March 1870 in Stoddard County, Missouri. James married Nancy Jane LANE TAYLOR, a widow with three children, 14 March 1869 in Stoddard County. They had two children: William and Amanda Elizabeth "Bettie". James was gone by 1880, leaving Nancy with five children. William married Lon REYNOLDS on 26 Dec 1889 in Stoddard County. Together they had at least 10 children, two of whom had died by 1910: Clarence E, born 1891 in Missouri; Andie (probably Andrew) E, born 1893 in Missouri; Fred, born 1895 in Missouri; Pearl D, born 1902 in Missouri; John G (or J) born 1905 in Oklahoma; Berta V, born 1907 in Oklahoma; Willie M, a daughter, born January 1910 in Arkansas; and Lewis R, born 1913 in Colorado. The family had apparently just arrived in Colorado in 1910 where I found them in Minneapolis Township, Baca County. And they are still there in 1920. Bettie and Nancy were with William's family in 1910, but moved out of the household and wound up in Lamar. Bettie never married and after homesteading in Prowers County, Colorado, spent the rest of her life running a boarding house in Lamar, Colorado. Nancy died in 1922 at the age of 89. Bettie died in 1961 also at the age of 89. I am trying to find the descendents of William CARTER and Lon REYNOLDS. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Nancy

"This Giles Carter was believed to be a son of Robert Carter of Cumberland County." I think two different Giles Carter's have been confused here. Robert Carter of Cumberland County, Virginia (1759) is my line. I have posted what I know here: Robert Carter (of Cumberland) http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ck11281812&id=I00445 Robert Carter of Cumberland County, Virginia (1759) is believed to be the eldest son of Thomas Carter of Goochland County, Virginia (1738). This Robert Carter also had a son named Robert Carter. I think "my" Giles Carter was the son of the son Robert. Just to confuse things, there was a third Robert Carter in this family who may have been a brother or half-brother of Giles Carter. The Giles Carter of the Robert Carter of Cumberland County line is a different man from the Giles Carter married to Mary Povall. According to the DNA results so far, there is no connection between these two Carter families. Of course that could change as more information becomes available. It appears that "my" Giles Carter moved from Cumberland County, Virginia to Mecklenburg County, Virginia around 1764. He later moved to Guilford County, North Carolina. What happened to him after that, I'm still waiting to discover. Giles Carter (of Guilford) http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ck11281812&id=I00449 I do not know if he ever married. There is a connection between "my" Giles Carter and Robert Burton Newton but I have not yet figured out what that connection is. So far we have two participants in the Carter Project who are thought to be from the Thomas Carter of Goochland County, Virginia (1738) line. # 45059 http://www.carter-cousins.org/kits/45059.htm # 51877 http://www.carter-cousins.org/kits/51877.htm We are still waiting for the test results of the second person. Jo, This is all I have regarding Robert P CARTER. His wife's first name was Catherine and he was a partner with Joseph W CARTER in general merchandise in Culpeper County VA in 1823. I do not know whether Joseph W. was his brother, Joseph, who married the OGLESBY sisters and eventually moved to KY, or perhaps a cousin. But searching records around this time for Joseph W might give you more information on your Robert P. Just a thought which you may already have pursued. Lynn Marion
