I have been researching LeRoy CARTER of Jackson County, TN, b. abt. 1841 to Enoch and Mariah CARTER. I'm developing a theory that links this LeRoy CARTER to various events, some criminal, which took place as part of a CARTER family feud, which came to a climax around 1872-1873. I'd appreciate any information on this LeRoy CARTER known to occur after 1873, as well as any information on his Tennessee family: his wife, Parolie, b. abt. 1848; their son, James. M. CARTER, b. abt. 1878; and their daughter, Mariah J. CARTER, b. abt. 1880.

In a message dated 98-11-15 20:27:39 EST, you write: << I do not understand why such an undertaking is of any importance if the conclusion is that they were kin. I thought Robert "King" Carter mentioned Capt. Thomas in his will as "kinsman". >> It is not a conclusion - it is a very viable debate, which I address very comprehensively in my work. As far as the will, Robert Carter named quite a few people in his will and it is not clear which one(s) he meant as his "kinsman." The language read: "... my honorable and good friends and relations..." and goes on to mention 6 persons, one of which is Mann Page (in fact, Mann was the first mentioned after "good friends and relations"). Mann was Robert's son-in-law. Sincerely, Paul
In a message dated 98-11-13 21:17:27 EST, you write: << The relationship between Capt. Thomas and Col. John is guessed at - One noted authority on the Carters of Virginia - Dollye McAlister Elliott - who has first thought Thomas was the son of William. Dear Nancy, Good to hear from you again!! Nancy, I was not content to research the writings of just one researcher on such a complex problem, but researched many to include Elliot (a secondary source), Charles Warner, Currer-Briggs, Christine Jones, Virginia Kaufaman, Crozier, and Carlton. I followed up with personal interviews of Currer-Briggs in England and Charles Warner. All of the above have researched the families, specifically the subject outlined in our "subject." You are correct that much is a "guess" since we are dealing with as early as 1632, but the preponderance of evidence as outlined in my New Origins work (which analyzes the research of all the great researchers and synopsizes their arguments, with which I then make conclusions) which can be found at http://members.aol.com/rarebk shows that very likeley they are of the same family. Sincerely, Paul

Hi Everyone, Last week sometime someone told everyone about what a good resource Charlene is for the Carter line and I totally agreed. I got a letter from her today and found out she is a little under the weather. She had a stroke back in July and apparently had another small stroke on October 30. It has slowed her thought process and her ability to concentrate and stay focused. So if you write to her or have written to her please be patient, she is recovering but it is a slow process. Hi, to all of you Carter researchers. It has been awhile and I lost Chuck (his old e-mail came back) so thought I would join up again for a few days and see how everyone has been. I was on the Carter list looking for Job and Peter Carter from the Prince William / Loudoun Co area between 1735 - 1800. Not the son of Peter & Judith Norris Carter - another one! Anyway, finally getting the GenWeb Project for our county and our society's web site up - plus some other things going on - finally got a Lost Ancestor site up with my Carters, the Veales/Whaleys/Tillets/Turleys and othe families they are connected with. We are uploading only sourced information - no guesses or suppositions and we have run some of the descendents of Peter for the next two or three generations. Drop by - if you spot any of your ancestors, send me an e-mail. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~unab22 Has anyone come across these names in the past few months in any of their research. After all of the searching, we still think we have a connection to the Capt. Thomas Carter or the Robert King Carter family. We have found some of the "descendents" and related families moving into Amherst Co. near the Peter/Judith Norris Carter families and we have also found while they were in Pr. Wm & Loudoun Co - they were pretty tight with the descendents of Robert King Carter. None of it makes any sense and we can't find any records. I did find a Peter Carter witnessing a record in Richmond Co. ca. 1735 - does anyone know who he is? He may be mine, but I am not sure. -- Nancy A - ;>) Anderson Ancestors - http://home.att.net/~unab22 Lost Ancestors - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~unab22 Coastal Bend Genealogical Society - http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcbgs Nueces County GenWeb Project - http://www.rootsweb.com/~txnueces
