    1. [CARTER-L] Cullen Wesley CARTER (AND SONS)
    2. Bryan L. Court
    3. Anyone recognize these Carters? >From earlier work, I found that Cullen Wesley CARTER, born abt. 1816 in Jackson Co., IN, married Milley GREER on 5 Aug 1838 in Hancock Co., IN. Based on info from the probate records of McKinney CARTER, we knew that Cullen Wesley died before 9 Nov 1847. His widow's name was now Milley CARTER, so I looked for a new marriage under that name. I figured that if I could find her in 1850, she would have some CARTER children with her. The only record I found at the Indiana State Library was for Milly CARTER marrying Lewis CAIN in Wayne Co., IN on 21 Nov 1844. Then I looked for Lewis CAIN on the 1850 Census. I found Milly and Lewis plus three of Cullen Wesley CARTER's children! 1850 U.S. Census, Wayne Twp., Wayne Co., Indiana. Census date. 17 Sep 1850. p. 244B, lines 10-17. FHL Microfilm #0,442,958. Lewis CAIN ...... 39 m Farmer NC Millie " 33 f KY Robert CARTER ... 13 m IN John M. " 12 m IN Thomas " 7 m IN Emely CAIN ...... 4 f IN Henry " 2 m IN Alexander " 11/12 m IN I think Cullen Wesley CARTER died abt. 1844 probably in Indiana--maybe Wayne Co. The show bill was as follows for last years reunion>>> June 20 and 21 [1998] is {was} the annual Carter family reunion in Lancaster County VA. On the 20th, a tour is{was} planned of the Mary Ball Washington Museum, where family members will view artifacts from the archaelogical survey of CPT Thomas Carter's ancestral home, 'Barford,' (dating back to the 1600's). A lecture will be given by Charles Warner, author of "The Early Carters of Lancaster County, VA." That afternoon, the tour will visit the historic Christ Church, where the Carter ancestors (to include the Robert "King" Carter family) worshipped. Next, members will tour 'Barford' Plantation, the ancestral Carter family home, as well as St. Mary's White Chapel, where the Dale Family worshipped, and finally the Dale ancestral plantation, "Midway." Day two will be the actual reunion in Grange Hall, Chesterfield County VA. 3. Job Carter, born September 08, 1860 in Bloomfield, Iowa married Mary Parthena Niday or Nida, who was Indian and they had the following children 1. Leahrue Carter 2. Zula Carter 3. Rosseta Carter 4. Walter Carter These children were probably born 1875 - 1902. Job later moved to Utah and Idaho and changed his name to James Thomas Carter and lost contact to his children. These children of Job/James Thomas Carter would have been my half aunts and uncles. Any help on this Carter line or any information at all will greatly appreciated. 1. [CARTER-L] Cemetery information
    2. Dyer
    3. My husband is the Carter researcher but I noticed the cemetery topic on your list as I was putting his messages in his file. I am a member of the CEMETERY-L@rootsweb.com and the purpose of the list is to discuss the up-keep and protection of our old cemeteries. (We do not provide a name search service) We have been concerned about cemeteries across the country being destroyed and eliminated. Some of our members have even been to court trying to save cemeteries. We need all the help we can get! Numbers do count when they have the same voice with government. If you choose to join the CEMETERY-L ask for the information about the petitions being collected to get certain states to make laws to protect the older cemeteries. To join send an e-mail to: CEMETERY-L@rootsweb.com leave the subject line blank but type the word subscribe in the message window. That all, nothing else. Soon you will get a welcome message, be sure to read it carefully. I'm not the list owner or manager, I've just been subscribed a long time. JADyer

    1. RE: [CARTER-L] Cemeteries
    2. Myra Symons
    3. Me, I am getting Cremated. It all started with the Smithsonian magazine including a picture of a dead guy they found in REALLY GOOD CONDITION because it was dry there or something and I thought that if he had been capable he would have rolled over to avoid publicity at that time. Frankly he looked as good as you can for being over 100 years dead but still its not a picture I would want of myself in a family album. It is very gross and scientists see absolutely nothing wrong with it. They think we are the weird ones. I just wish they would stick to studying their own ancestors - that would be better - at least the curses from the dead would be closely related to the appropriate disrespectful person. I think maybe we should write our Congressmen about this and stand up and be heard. This is very unwarranted on our governments part. Can anyone give us some advise? With me being out of Country? I am not sure what the Protocal would be. Sincerely, Derre Southworth Maybury Manama, BAHRAIN Alice Beal wrote: > > This message is very upsetting to me. 1. [CARTER-L] Henry Carter of Madison Co. KY
    2. I am a new subscriber to the Carter list wishing to make contact with anyone who is searching the line of Henry Carter b. 1760/70 prob. Charles Co. MD. The Madison Co. Ky 1830 census shows him age 60-70 with wife age 50-60. Henry Carter had the following children listed in an 1827 indenture from his brother William Carter of Garrard Co. KY: Susannah, Betsy, Polly, Charles, Joseph, John, Alcy,(my gg grandmother b. 1812 d.1871 in Van Buren Co. IA.) Henry (twin of Alcy), William, and Rhoda. Although at least one of Henry Carter's children, Betsy, was shown to have been born in Maryland I am unable to verify if Henry came from there. Charles Co. MD land records show that Carters lived near my ancestor Isaac Davis whose son Alexander Davis later married Alcy Carter in Madison Co. KY before they moved to Van Buren County, Iowa in 1836. I am also seeking any info regarding Henry Carter's wife who may have been named Susannah or Susan Black.
