    3. Frank.....yes the entry reads" Joseph Cartter ye Son of William & Mary Carter was Baptized ye 30th day of aprill 1704 (p. 62). It also has other children: George, Phillip, Ann, Robert, Mary & William. Wm., Sr. was md. 1st and his children listed by he & Penelope Pew Carter were: Mary, Thomas, Elizabeth, and William. I would guess that Wm., Jr. by Penelope died and therefore, he named his youngest son by Mary Goodloe Wm. also. Margaret

    3. Bob.....just to correct you on some of your info. Joseph Carter baptized 30 Apr. 1704 Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., VA d. poss. 1751 Buckingham Co., VA md. Catherine Ammon 1 Dec. 1731 in Middlesex Co. I have not ever seen any record of him marrying a Meridith Anderson. His son Joseph b. 1732 was probably born in Middlesex Co. and his son John (1734) might have also been born in Middlesex Co., but his other 6 children were born in Spotsylvania Co. Joseph Carter, Jr. b. 1732 d. 1814 Bedford Co., VA md. Judith Chastain in Buckingham Co. He went to Buckingham Co. about 1764. His son Joseph III md. Magdalene Chastain in Buckingham Co. He is the Joseph that went to Morgan Co., KY. The only other discrepancy I find is Jane Carter b. 1802 daughter of Joseph & Magdalene....I had that she md. a John Moore 15 Nov 1821. Virginia Jane Carter (parents unk to me) md. 1st: Joseph McKinney 29 Jul 1819 in Bath Co., KY.....had sons Joseph & Shelton. Virginia Jane md. 2nd: David B. Carter, son of Joseph & Magdalene Chastain Carter on 8 Sep 1825. They had 2 sons. Obviously, she didn't marry her own brother. I'm sorry I can't tell you who her parents were. I hope that this helps some. Margaret

McKinney CARTER, born 1780's possibly in VA, maybe in TN; was married to Rachel __?__ when he died on or before 23 Nov 1832 in Jackson Co., IN. 2. David Bentley
    3. BOB, I, at one time, had my Joseph Carter b. 1704, Bucks Co. Pa. married to Catherine Ammon. However, since my Carter family were Quakers in Pa. at that time, I have been a subscriber to the Pa.Quaker Roots Web. It was there that I was called to task for having the wrong wife for Joseph. They showed me that Catherine Duncan was the proper wife for this Joseph. It seems that Catherine died in 1831, rather young, and Joseph married a second time to Rachel Shaw. What do you think?? 1. [CARTER-L] Carter Roll Call

    3. My Brick Wall: James Carter b. ? ca late 1700's very likely in VA. Would have moved to TN in the early 1800's. His son William was born in 1806 (one sibling that is known of--Joseph Carter). According to a biography on William's son, his father William was brought to TN as a young child, so that could be anywhere from 1807 to ?. It is unknown where in TN they went to. William was married in 1825 in Rhea County, TN where all 4 of his children were born. James Carter's other son, Joseph Carter, was known to have been living in Cass County, MO from 1851-1852 and was the County Assessor at the time. In the first bio, the grandson states: "His father, William Carter, was a native of Virginia, emigrating to Tennessee at a very early day. (Born in 1806) William's father moved to Rhea County when he was quite small, and where he acquired a fair English education." Typo's were corrected in the above passage. William Carter's last name was misspelled and Rhea County was spelled as it sounded, "Ray". In the 3rd and final biography that I have found: "His father (the grandson), a native of Virginia, was descended from an early family of the Old Dominion, which traced its ancestry back to Landon Carter. The family was represented in the Revolution. " I can find no ties to the Landon Carter line. William Carter died in 1837 in Bradley County, TN. His wife lived with the son whose biographies I have quoted until her death in 1880 in MO. If there's anyone of the Landon Carter line that knows where William fits, I would love to hear from you. It's been alleged that William's full name was William James Carter. I haven't found any documentation to prove this, the information having come from an elderly lady. She was correct on the full name of William's wife which I later verified, so may be correct on his full name or not. Thanks, Kim Common names in the line: Elizabeth Ann Carter William Landon Carter Ruth Carter Charles Leonidas Carter James (various middle names) Carter
