Looking for Carter's from Macon Co. Tenn. Relation's to Robert Wallace Carter born 1861 to Edward or Edmond Carter and Martha Patsy Horne with few brothers, moving to Gallinton Tenn. in the late 1800's, Please reply. Thank You
I am sending this letter out once again as I did on the other Carter list from my other side of the family. You see I have two side's of Carter's to find....one being my dad's side and my mother's grandmother was a Carter. No relation I am told? ____________________________________________________________________________ Hello list I am putting my brick wall out once again in hopes there are some new listers who might have a link to this Carter bunch. My g-grandfather was Michael (Mical) Benjamin Carter born 12024-1845 in Wayne Co., TN married Tennessee Ann Foster born 11-25-1868 and I have a list of their children being as listed below: WILLIAM JOSEPH b. 5-19-1860 d. 8-?-1944 MARY JANE b. 3-15-1871 d. 10-?-1951 JAMES (JIM) b. 11-16-1872/73 d. 1956 JOHN HARDY (my grandfather) b. 1-13-1875 d. 1956 LEE GRAND b. 1877 who died shortly after birth AMENA (Rene Ann) b. 2-13-1879 d. 11-23-1921 BENNIE LEE b. 12-22-1881 d. 7-6-1944 NOLLIE b. 7-3-1883 d. 8-27-1883 MATTIE BELL b. 5-?-1884 d. ? BERRY ABNER b. 11-8-1886/87 d. 8-?-1975 CARREL (BERT) b. 10-?-1889 d. 1960's LUCY TENNESSEE b. 3-1-1891 THOMAS OTTO b. 12-5-1894 Michael Benjamin served in the Calvary on the Union side of the Civil War. I have a distant cousin on another side of my Carter family who is from the Summitt side who said he saw a 1850 Tennessee Census, 5th Civil District, Wayne county, enumerated on October 8, 1850 with this family who could possibly be the parents of Michael but I have yet to find this because you have to be a member of some site that he found it on. I will list it and see if it connects with someone out there. JOHN CARTER age 30 M Farmer Born in Virginia ISABELLA age 27 F " " " JAMES age 10 M " " " MARY age 7 F " " " BENJAMIN age 5 M " " " this puts this Benjamin about the right age for my g-grandpa Michael Benjamin. Have been told he went by Benjamin? JANE age 2 F " " " I really do hope this rings a bell with someone out there. I would desperately like to find the link to this family. Thanks in advance. Sherry Carter- Daniels P.S. after writing this letter I have recieved several emails from different people who really believe that John and Isabella are the parents of Michael Benjamin Carter. If anyone has concrete proof please contact me!!! This is looking really positive to me....so if it looks fimilar to anyone please email me. THANKS!!!!
Here we go again....I am posting this letter once again in hopes someone will see it and can connect .................................... Well list since I have been spinning my wheels with my Carter's on my father's side of the family I thought I would try the Carter's on my mother's side of the family (no relation we don't think). But I am putting out these Carter's in hope's to find something out about them or make a connection on here hopefully. I will start with my mother's g-grandparents and their children. This is all I have!!! gg-grandparents are as follows: William Madison Carter b. Sept. 15, 1837Georgia.... buried at Comanchee, OK.....married Martha Jane Boone b.Sept.? 1842 also buried in Comanchee, OK. William and Martha's children are as follows. James S. Carter b. 1860 in Arkansas Jefferson Davis Carter b. 1864 Pope Arkansas Sterling Price Carter b. 186? Pope Arkansas Georgia Ellen Carter (my g-grandma) b. Dec. 18, 1877 Died 1957 in Durant, OK, but buried in Antlers, OK next to her husband Charles Benjamin Ladyman. Joseph P. Carter b. 1870 John W. Carter 1872 Iva A. Carter 1877 William A. Carter 1877 My gg-grandma Georgia Ellen Carter married Charles Benjamin Ladyman b. May 20,1857 Arkansas. If anyone sees something here please respond to my email address or the list which ever you prefer. This is all I have on them (Carter's) and hope to find someone who knows who William Madison Carter's parents are and more if you can connect. I was told by Lina that possibly William's parents were Stephen and Leana (Leeanah) Carter And Possibly Leana's father is James Adams who was living with them in 1860 Census? Would anyone know anything about this? Sherry Carter- Daniels

Hi David, Just received your rootsweb post. Am very interested as I have a Jacob HARMON that married a Eleanora BUS(C)H from Germany (?) and France(?) Their first child, Mary Ann HARMON, born 1 April 1841 in either RockIsland or Madison Co. IL and then on to MO to travel overland to California in 1846, same year of the famous Donner Party, but split off from them and made it to California 4-6 weeks before the Donners were stranded. My ggGrandfather, Jacob HARMON was one of the first white men to take up a preemptive claim of 160 acres in San Francisco. I have been at the famous "BRICK WALL" with this family for years! I have been unable to get further back than the info I just stated, though rumors have it that Eleanoras' mothers maiden name was CARTER. Is their any possible connection in your records that may help me through the famous wall?? Since I typed this up for a couple of other people I thought I might as well post it to the list in case someone else needs this information. This is about George Carter who died in Buckingham Count, VA in 1806. The information I have came from a book titled "Early buckingham County Virginia Legal Papers, Vol 1, 1765-1806"/by Jeanne Stinson. Page 71, 72 has: [380-1] Accounts and legals, buckingham county, 1806: May and June Court. [folio 1] Then it gives the whole Will of George Carter, (a summary is: he leaves his plantation where they now live to wife Mary and my four sons that now live with her: John, Childress, Benjamin and William. My long branch Plantation I wish to be equally divided between my two sons George and Henry. I give to my dear & beloved wife Mary the following property : 2 Negro women named Sall & Kuss, 1 good work horse, one feather bed & furniture, 4 sheep, 2 cows and calves, 2 sows. The balance afterward to be divided equally among my following children: John, Childress, Benjamin, Wm., Katey, and Polly. I give to my son Joseph 1 negro man named Sam & 1 female negro named Judah. I give to George 1 negro boy named Jim and $100.00 dollars. I give to son John, 2 negroes named Bob and Sarah. I give to son Childress 1 negro boy named Stephen. I give to son Benjamin 2 negroes Julius and Aggy. I give to son William 1 negro woman named Hannah. I give to daughter Katey 2 ne! gro girls Mimah and Nancy. I give to daughter Susanna 1 negro woman Phillis and her childd Rachel. I give to daughter Polly 2 negro girls Phibby & Fanny. I give to son Henry 2 negroes Beverly & Amy. I give to daughter Katy & Polly a feather bed & furniture. When my wife dies her share is to be divided up equally between all of my children. I appoint sons Joseph & Wm. executors. Witnesses are Nathaniel Garnett, A. Garnett, Thomas Woodridge, and James Powell. Will was exhibited in Buckingham court June 9, 1806. It was opposed by Drury Childress, whereupon sundry witneses were examined & cousel heard on both sides on considerations whereof it is considered that the said Will be put to record it having been proven by the oaths of Nathan. Garnett, Armstead Garnett & James Powell, and sworn to by William Carter. It might continue on the next page but I did not copy it. Let me know if this helps determine which Carter family we are dealing with.
