Linda: Back in those days slaves were consided property, and yes you would be correct thqat a will could have info on the slaves that were owned. There are many other documents such as plantation recordes , tax schedules etc... that would have valuable info as well. I beleive at the Mary Ball library in Lancaster Va. would have copies of those records as well as the county records office. The Christ Church in Lancaster Va. that was built by Robert Carter has allot of the Carter information. Hope this helps. Good evening, everyone.. This is my first posting to the list so I apologize if I am repeating a question that has been already discussed.... I was wondering if anyone would have information about the Corotoman (spelling?) Plantation slaves. Ever since I have been trying to get my colleagues interested in doing their family histories, I discovered that one of my friends can trace his lineage back to Carter's plantation..by oral history, however. I was hoping that since there seems to be have been so much written and studied about Robert, that there might be some effort to document or, at least, list his slaves. I suppose they would have been named in wills? Thanks for any help or suggestions.. Linda

Hi I am seeking information of Keturah Carter who was born about 1779. Lived in Pittsylvania Co., VA. Keturah married Armstead Blevins, Son of Dillon Blevins and Ann Armstrong in 1795. Keturah Carter died in Hempstead Co., Arkansas in 1845
I was wondering if anybody was going to be around Sumner Co. I was needing a favor, I need the marriage information for Robert Wallace Carter, around 1885 in Sumner Co. Tenn. to Dolly Stovall, also the same information for Robert Wallace Carter to Mary Helmontaler in Sumner Co. they got married Oct.10,1889. What I would like to know is what he put down for his father. I need to know if his father went by something other than Edmond Carter, and that might be what I need to find out. Everytime I get down there,it is during Holidays and nothing is open. So if anybody is going to be around there,I would thank you for it.I live in Indianapolis. Thanks Again. Chris Carter
I need help on finding my family( Carter), can anybody help? My Edmond Carter from North Carolina shows upon the 1850 census in Macon Co. also listed is a son named Thomas( age 2). The 1860 census shows the same Thomas as" Thpmas G. age 14-and an Idiot". Then on the 1870 census a" Thomas U." which could be a (G) living with Thomas( age 80) and Elizabeth (age 81). This Thomas is age 24.There is no Thomas listed in Edmond's (or Edward's ) house. However, they lived next doors. I need help figuring these discrepancies out. It is my belief that my Sarah E.(age 7 )from the 1850 census married William H. Carter who is J.L. Carter's son from North Carolina. The 1860 census lists J.L.as age 54 married to a Margarett (age 39 ) from North Carolina. Also, I'm told Edward died after the 1870 census-perhaps 1874. The 1880 census list Sarah E. and William H. Carter, with Carter being Sarah's maiden name and having a son whose name was William Ed.Carter-age 6. I have been stuck here for about three years now. Somebody has to know these people Please. Thanks Chris
