I'm not having any luck & was wondering if any of your readers could help. This is what I would like to know. The 1850 census for Macon County Tenn.shows Edmond Carter, age 33 from Tn. His wife Martha Horne age 24 also from Tn. They had a daughter Sarah age 7,and 2 sons James age 5, Thomas age 2. Then in the 1860 census it shows Edmond Carter age 46, with wife Martha age 36, Edmond as being from North Carolina, one daughter sarah age 17, with 5 sons A.James age 16, Thomas G. age 14, William age 8, John age 5, and Gideon age 4. Then in the 1870 census for Macon County Tn. it shows Edward L. Carter age 55, and wife Martha J. age 46 and had 5 sons William age 17, John A. age 16, Gideon B. age 14, Robert W. age 9 & George E. age 5 years old. Robert W. Carter was my great Grandfather. He was born in 1861. Also in the 1870 census it shows a William H. Carter age 24, with a wife Sarah E. age 27,it also shows she was a Carter before marriage.I think she was Edward 's daughter. She had two daughter's Lauiza E. age 4,and Malvinia S. age 2. The 1870 census also shows a neighbor Thomas Carter age 80,with a wife Elizabeth age 81.Both are from North Carolina with a Thomas U. I think it should of read (G.) instead of (U.) age 24. This would be the right age for Edward's son & it says he had a handicap,& Thomas wasn't in Edward's family in 1870. The 1880 census shows William H. Carter age 35 with wife Sarah E. age 38,who had two daughter's Lorenza age 15,and Malvina age 12,& one son William Ed. age 6. The family believes Edward died in 1874 & Thomas died in 1871.After that time, none of the family shows up anywhere. It could be Sarah named her son William Ed. after her father. I do know my great Grandfather went to Sumner Co. Tn. and then Scottsville Ky. and back to Sumner Co. Thank You for Your Help, Christy Carter --------------A764A578B777636F63F8B15F--

    3. Seeking information on two Carter boys who in 1870 were in Texas, Travis County, Onion Creek community near Austin. They were W.L. CARTER b.1853-55 TX and FAYETT CARTER b.abt.1856 TX. They were living with a 25?-yr-old man named PEGRAVE/PEGRAW? and several other children named PEGRAVE/PEGRAW and RETLAW?, also a MICHAEL ROGERS age 24. In 1920 in Williamson Co. TX, Pond Springs (near Austin), there is W.L. CARTER, 65, b.TX, wife H.M., daughter GRADY age 34 (yes, a daughter; it says she was female); son CHARLES D. age 26; and daughter M.L. age 24; all children were unmarried. Living next door was WILLIAM L. CARTER age 36, b.TX and wife Ora. Pond Springs is not too far from the Onion Creek location of 1870. I am speculating the W.L. CARTER in 1920 might be the same as the W.L. CARTER in 1870. The age works out fairly close. The WILLIAM L. CARTER next door was perhaps his son, meaning his own name was probably WILLIAM L. CARTER. This is of interest because of my relative WILLIAM LAFAYETTE CARTER b.1837 Hardeman Co. TN. His family (parents and siblings) went to Travis Co. TX from Tippah Co. MS in 1851. They lived at Webberville, which is just east of Austin. In 1870 they had only recently left the area for Waco, McLennan Co. TX. Would like to know if there is any connection between the boys W.L. CARTER and FAYETT CARTER and my relative WILLIAM LAFAYETTE CARTER. I would not rule out that they were his sons, though he would have been only 17-18 when the oldest was born. S. M. 3. Well everyone let me tell you, genealogy is history and genectics. We are all cousins especially the Carter side now it my be distant but we are. When my studies started some twenty years past.I was searching for answers to many puzzling questions, and then the computers came along and I kinda got the hang.I remember, and still have to now, waiting weeks for answers and then getting the wrong ones at times. WW II has been a fascinating era the introduction of new weapons the V Bombs the Tiger Tanks the Paratroopers. The start they were all sorta like guinea pigs. But they became elite conquering Italy and moving on to Europe France Holland Belgium and Germany. Understanding that they were probably always on suicide missions but they did because they could and with love of their families, and love of their country and fellowman they set the stage for their own places in history and 75% did not make it.My father was among the living but the war changed him he carried those burdens of phantoms until his death. My ancestors David whose father-in-law Garrigues was already up in age fought and rode those roads during the Revolutionary wars, they did because they could and because they cared about their familes and about their country. 3. Hi Cousin! I sent a message to your aol address, but it bounced back. I am Marion Foy Carter's great granddaughter. My mother was Mary Elizabeth Carter, daughter of Floyd M. Carter. I have some photos to share, and can catch you up on the AZ Carters. Contact me off list at [email protected] Looking forward to hearing from you! Fran [email protected] I am working on the John Carter line who left N,J. migrated with other Carter families through Va. N. Car. To Greene Co., Tn.by early 1800's. Then I have another line: Rebecca Carter, b. 1805, dau. of Moses and Mary Carter m. in Hopkins Co., Ky. John Lamson. 3. I am looking for info. on my great-grandmother. I know she was born about 1903 and I believe in the Clarke County, VA area (1910 census). My mom told be she died in the same state (VA), but does not know exact area. She married Lewis Boswell about 1923, I believe in the Franklin County, VA area, due to the fact that my great-grandfather was born in this area. If anyone has any more info. on her, please e-mail me with what you have, it would be greatly appreciated. 1. [CARTER-L] Alice Carter, b. MD @ 1900
    2. Catherine posted an inquiry regarding Alice Carter. My great-grandfather had a sister named Alice, a person we know nothing about. She was most likely born a few years before 1900 (1894 or 1897 -- see explanation below). I think it is a long-shot that our Alice would be the same Alice as Catherine's ([email protected]), but maybe. . . ? And if not, maybe someone else will recognize her. Our Alice was probably born in Caroline Co., MD. She had siblings named Arthur Edgar, Lillian May, William B. (prob. Barcus), maybe a sister named Tishca/Tirsce (see note below), Mary, Charles George, Everett Edgar, David, twins Alfred B. and Albert, Agnes, and Marion. Our Alice and her siblings were the children of William George Carter (b. May 25, 1860, prob. PA, maybe MD) and Alverta Dunning (b. April 14, 1867 or 1870 or 1872, MD -- there are conflicting records regarding the year of birth) Note: The 1900 census which is the only census in which I have found our Alice lists her birth date as August 1894. However, she is also listed in descending line between siblings born in 1896 and 1898 (suggesting that the census should read 1897 for Alice's birth year). Furthermore, in that same census Tishca/Tirsce is listed as being born in Apr. 1994 which lends some credence to the theory that our Alice should have been listed as born in 1897 and was 2 instead of 5, since these two children could not have been born a mere 4 months apart. Alice does not appear in the 1910 census. If she were 5 in the 1900 census, she might have married and been out of the household -- however, if she were 2 in the 1900 census, she might have died before the 1910 census. She is not listed as a sibling to my father's grandfather in his family bible, so if she died, she must have died young enough that she was not a topic of discussion regarding family members. Another connundrum: Mary is not listed in the 1900 census; Tishca/Tirsce is not listed in the 1910 census. Mary is 6 in the 1900 census and Tishca/Tirsce is 17 in the 1910 census. Depending on the dates of the census and the dates of their births, Mary and Tishca/Tirsce could be the same child. Also, my father's family bible lists no Tishca/Tirsce as a sibling for his grandfather, but does list a Mary. Does anyone recognize this family? Karen Carter Sandy, UT
