    1. [CARTER-L] CARTER, John of NJ bca.1760-80
    2. Michael Boyer O'Leary
    3. I am beginning work on a John CARTER, b.1760-80 [based on birth date of daughter Elizabeth Gertrude Carter in 1798 (in Marlton, Burlington, NJ) and at least four other children (order of birth uncertain)], md. 1794 Deziah White, 1774-1854, d/o Rufus White and Sara Johnson. John and Deziah (White) Carter had children John, Rhoda, William, Deziah Jane, and Elizabeth Gertrude. There were John Carters in Nottingham Twp., Hanover Twp., and Little Egg Harbor Twp, Burlington Co, NJ in 1830, 1840 and 1793 respectively. There were also John Carters in Chesterfield, Southampton, New Hanover, and Egg Harbor, Burlington Co., NJ in 1850. None are clear matches with "my" John (although he may well have been dead by 1850) and none include Deziahs in the household, although two were of the right age to be John's son. I'd welcome information or advice from anyone who has worked on Carter families in NJ. Thanks! Michael

    3. Hi Richard, What was the locality of the marriage records you listed? Were they all from the same place? I'm particularly interested in the following: > 2. James Carter-Mary Essex, daughter of Joseph > Essex--December 27, 1820 > Surety--Joseph Essex > > 8. Joseph Carter--Sarah Harp, daughter of Joseph > Harp--July 7, 1795 > Surety--Joseph Harp > > 11. Nicholas Carter--Elainey Whitfield, both being > over the age of 21 > years--April 12, 1809 > Surety--Mathew Rhodes > > 12. Nicholas Carter(son of Nicholas Carter)--Rachel > Gardiner, daughter of > Samuel Gardiner--Feb 2, 1818 > Surety-Samuel Gardiner There was a Nicholas Carter who appears to have been one of the first Carters who settled in Vermillion County Indiana. He was in the 1830 census, listed as being over age 45. My James Carter, who was born in Kentucky, was also in Vermillion Co. IN in the 1830's. James also had some kind of connection with a Joseph Carter - maybe father or brother. I know who James' wife was in the 1840's (Marguerite Reffett) but it's always possible that she was not his 1st wife. Nancy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. I am trying to locate any information on a HENRY CARTER He married a MARGARET SMITH. They lived in the 1800's in or near Cleveland, Texas. That is in Liberty County. They may have had a son named Benjamin Franklin Carter. They may have divorced or he may have died. Margaret Smith Carter ran a boarding house on the San Jacinto river. When the barges came down the river, they would stop for a meal or to stay over night. She married or lived with an OSBORNE later. He may have come down the river from OHIO. They had a daughter named Matilda Alice Osborne. She was born 1 Feb. 1872 at Pen Oak, Liberty Co, Texas (near Cleveland). She was a gggrandmother. I am trying to locate any information on Margaret or the Osborne and even Henry. I can not find information. Margaret and the Osborne both died early. A flood destroyed out all traces of family information. BIG HELP PLEASE! Thanks Frances Peoples

    3. Good morning list; I am looking for my father HOWARD WAYNE CARTER. I have very little info about him. According to my birth certificate he was born in 1902 in Kearney Nebraska. It doesn't say if that is Kearney County or Kearney City. My parents were married in Golden Colorado in 1927 and they were living in the Colorado Springs area in 1928 according to the City Registry for that year. He was employed at Pikes Peak Fuel Co. (now out of business). According to Mom, his mother's maiden name was Campbell. She was told that he died in 1932, but no other info. I have checked every place I can find with no luck so far. Edward Dale. I believe they were last accounted for in Chicago shortly after the time of the great fire (1871). Does anyone know the current whereabouts of these items? Regards, Andrew R.
