-Thanks to all who have responded to my question, so far... Dick Carter [email protected]
I hope that everyone isn't as confused as I am... In doing my research, I have noticed a trend, as I am sure that you have. Migration from Ky to Owen Co.,Indiana, usually was from Nelson, Shelby, or Spencer Counties. With Shelby and Spencer being thru Nelson, apparently due to County line changes... If there was further migration, it seemed to nearly always be to Parke Co., In., to Vermillion Co., In., to Vermillion Co., Il, to Douglas Co., Il, to Edgar Co., Il, to Hancock Co., Il., and then to Keokuk or Washington Co., Ia. Can anyone explain this? Was it due to various land rushes, re;igious followings, or what? If there was a stop between Ky and Owen Co., In., can anyone tell me what county would be the most likely to have been "Visited"? Have I confused you? Or, am I only "tilting at windmills"? Thanks, Dick Carter [email protected]
I can tell you why you didn't see mine! When one replies to a message on the Carter List, the default address is that of the sender, not the list. Sometimes I forget, and reply to the sender when I intended to send it to the list! Maybe Richard could compose a summary of the opinions. Searching for descendants of my grandmother's brothers: GEORGE E. CARTER was born about 1875 in Jasper County IL. May have married Daisy Bell in 1907 in Reno County KS. I think I found his family in the 1920 census in Junction City (Geary Co.) KS. I have the following children from that census: Merle - age 7, Edgar - age 5, and Dorothy - age 3. I might have found Merle in SSDI and CA death records. I found a Merle Gilmore Carter, born 21 Dec, 1912 in KS. Died Dec. 1978 in Orange Co. CA. DAVID CARTER was born in 1878 in Jasper County IL. He married Louella (Lulu) Webster in 1900 in Denver CO. Known children were Earl, born about 1904 in CO, and Gladys, born about 1912 in CO. Earl had two children that I know of, Delores and Lloyd. I would love to get in touch with descendants of either of these two men. My information is very sketchy and I need to confirm it! Thanks, Nancy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com

Carter. thank You, Jennie Durao ----- Original Message ----- From: jennie Durao To: Carter Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2002 4:27 PM Subject: John Robert Carter Dear rooters, I'm looking for a cousin of mine is name is John Robert Carter he was born about 1968 to 1970 in the Sanfrancisco area of California. This request is not so much for me as it for his younger half brother Mark Carter. Mark has MS and at times is very sick, he has spent the better part of the last three years in and out of hospitals. His one request has been to find his half brother. I have done about all i can to help find him. I feel this is my last alternative, since the California birth and death records have been taken of the net it has been hard to locate him. I'm hoping that some one out there will recognize John Roberts Carter's name and help me us out. The only thing i know about John Robert Carter is his mother's name was Christina and his father's name was William R Carter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Jennie Durao

Seeking any information for a LUDWELL CARTER, other than the one in Owen Co., Indiana... (Mine) Trying to find out where the name came from, or to find another line with the name. I am seeing the name Ludwell Carter used as first and middle name in a number of families.. My Ludwell, born 4-3-1837,In., was son of John CARTER Jr.,born 1-2-1813 in Ky., who was supposed to be a cousin to Robert E Lee... I am trying to find the connection, as I am at a brick wall on my CARTERs. Thanks, Dick Carter [email protected]
Hello Dick, I am sorry not to be able to connect with your Carter family or to offer any help except the fact that in my own family research I've found more than once that mother's maiden name was given as childs middle or occasionally first name. There are some Ludwell messages in rootsweb and ancestry; you might make a connection that way.
